Offline | taken the plunge Hey everyone, not posted much, but hi! I went to test drive the R56 S and have currently got the R50 Cooper. Ever since I drove it, i have wanted it, and today I specced one up, and am looking at delivery of mid to end november. I have fully specced it up; just a small part; Pepper White Black Roof JCW Aero Kit 17" Flame Spokes Sat Nav Chrome Line Interior Darkened Rear Glass Glass Sunroof Lounge Leather Redwood Additional Spotlights Heated Front seats Chilli Pack Automatic Aircon Hifi Speakers Now here is my scenario, I have specced the sat nav as I have always wanted it built in, however I am leaning towards it mainly due to the fact that it makes the dash look so much better. What would you spec, sat nav or JCW kit, or both. I think the JCW kit makes it look so much more aggressive and I am finding it difficult to picture my new car without it. WHat do you all think? Thanks in advance. James ![]() ITS HERE!!!!........R56 S, Sparkling Silver, Sat Nav, Redwood Red Lounge Leather, Sun Roof, web spokes, Colour coded arches click here... |

Offline | Well congrats that sounds good My dealer persuaded me out of satnav and pushed me more towards the integrated Garmin option. That's what I'll go for when it's available. And the JCW aerokit is a no-brainer lol ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| Not a happy bunny. | interesting ! the MCS i borrowed had the satnav option in it, and to be honest i found it to be pants. the directions were rubbish "continue straight on this road for 2 miles" why tell me that ??? just tell me when i need to turn somewhere ! and i couldn't seem to search via full postcode. plus the interface was a little too clumsy for me. the Garmin retrofit is by far a better option if you ask me. use the money and spend it on an aero kit ![]() |

| Back in a first gen. | As I bought an R56 that was from the showroom obviously I never specced the car, so it came without the satnav option, so I had a JCW kit fitted - but however if I were in the postion of speccing an R56 I would choose the satnav as the dash does look better and I would still have the bodykit. So IMO - go for both!! But saying that you could buy and Tomtom and the money saved buy some other goodies for the new car!! |

| MINI2 Senior | Have you got DSC, LSD and the MFSW ..is that just part of spec you've not listed ? Personally I'd dumped out the satnav, you'll get something that works better for £250 and will be more easily upgradeable that the built in one. Yes, it does look better...but it really is silly ££. And personally if I was buying 2nd hand mini I would not pay £1 more for a car with satnav than without. Why not remove and get the stage 1 tuning kit...much better way to spend your ££ (all my opinion mind) JCW aero kit is great...I love mine. |

| 1151bhp/tonne | I have both ![]() I like the nav , but I at £1400 it is not cheap. I do like the functionality of the screen with my ipod and the bluetooth though....and twice the TMC has got me out of trouble so...... I hate the standard rear bumper on the R56 S so much the JCW aero was a must have for me (even though the rear aero bumper is not much better)..... ![]() Black to the future.... |

Offline | I was torn over sat nav - mainly because of cost. Ordered it in the end, stuffed the cost, cause it would have always bugged me and ruined the enjoyment of my car!! plus if you spending silly money on a car you want the one you want, not a compromise! As with the garmin IMHO think it looks crap with aftermarket brackets and things doesnt really do anything for looks ![]() My advice is ... if you really can afford both, do it, If not get the sat nav as you can always retro fit the JCW aero kit !! |

| MINI2 Senior | There is always some compromise...and don't see not having SATNAV would ruin the enjoyment ofthe car ???... afterall mostly you are looking where you are driving and not spending time looking at the SATNAV screen ![]() If you get the JCW aerokit fitted on registration some insurance companies will not treat it as an "extra"...so no insurance premium being added. |

Offline | Just looking at insurance, which companys do that, its all a bit of a grey area, most seem to include chilli pack as factory built but not sure where other things, ie 17" Wheels, Spotlights, Dark Rear Glass, Sat Nav are classed as modifications ![]() For me not having Sat Nav would have ruined the enjoyment of car because I would see cars with it in and think 'I should have gone for that'.....currently having this feeling about Bi-Xenons but hey ho ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | Swift cover and A-plan (who I went with) accepted my JCW Aero kit as standard as it was fitted when it came off the transporter. They also covered all the other extras (DSC, LSB, auto air con, Chilli, dark rear glass, visibillity pack, etc etc) as standard as they were factory fit options. Issue is when you then try to add things on later, eg JCW Aero Kit...then you have to declare it as a modification. Speak to A-plan...they were very helpful and certainly get a thumbs up from me. I have still to see a car with SATNAV so have no feeling of "I wished I'd got that".... And at £2k I would just end up thinking that a TOMTOM is even more of a steal that I already think ![]() |
