R56 bonnet scoop

Why doesnt the bonnet scoop lead anywhere like the older cooper S?
What was the real use of the scoop in the older one?

Lots on this already, try a search of the 2nd gen forum for scoop and you'll find lots of information and debate.

Because the R56 has a front mount intercooler.
The R53 had a top mount intercooler which is what the scoop was designed for.

It can go somwhere if you want...

DDMWorks

Or you could open it up and put in a little diverder to blow a little more air over the turbo (like the MINI Challenge car).

All the later R56 MCS scoops have holes in to allow extra cooling in the engine compartment / turbo area

You can always make a use out of it, but it won't help much. Just like Steve11 said, it's just due to the engine design. It's there to keep the retro look.
