not sure abou that mini have type approval for towbars but because of the exhausts on the cooper s they only fit them to the mini one and mini cooper.

this is a unusual deisgn in the way it removes to leave just a hole which you then put the supplied grommit in and to be honest it doesnt look too bad.

Looks good, I think that's the same tow bar we were considering.

If that is the towbar I think it is, I had one for a previous MINI, and it met specifications for purpose in the US. The only reason MINI USA does not specifically recommend towing with the MINI is because of fear of litigation in case of owner stupidity.

Not recommended does not mean prohibited. At least in the States.

Be careful because all vehicles after 1/8/98 must use a TYPE APPROVED towbar otherwise you are committing an offence under the road traffic act by an infringement of construction and use regulations.
If you have an accident your insurance company will not pay out.
Unfortunately we live in an over regulated nanny state.

I will have to strongly dissagree with the Ferrari Stripes, they are hidious. And may i also add that the centre exhaust is an abomination to all that is MINI.

I agree that lack of approval for the tow bar means that technically it is not legal. But I think the chances of getting caught are so small as to not be worth worrying about.

Assuming that the tow bar is fitted and used in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations, I am not convinced that an insurer could void your insurance for fitting this tow bar. They would need to have a sound reason ie to demonstrate that one of the terms of the policy had been breached.

Of course if you overloaded the tow bar and this caused an accident then there might be a problem but otherwise I can't see what the grounds for rejection could be.

im with the above remember 95% of the time the removable bit will be out so nothing illegal etc the other 5% i will be towing and doing max 55mph so being quite sensible really and again mini do have type approval for the mini but dont make a towbar for the cooper s because of the exhausts.

crazycarbon
sorry you dont like the "hidious" ferrari stripes but isnt it good that everyone likes different things otherwise we will all have the same thing and isnt thats part of the love for mini's that they are all mostly different ?????? and the single rear centre exhaust isnt my taste but but as its just a pic from the towbar companies website i dont have to worry about it.

remember when the towbar is fitted you wont see the exhausts anyway as there will be a jetski in the way so doesnt really matter thats they have a blocked view.
