Yea, I have show plates for my MINI, putting them on at Donny this weekend. And they do look really nice.

Do you show yours then?

It doesn't look all that "showy" to me. I don't mean that in a rude way by the way just thought it was a standard cooper with different bumpers. Im used to seeing full cooper s look a likes with carbon dripping from every orophis at car shows. Or will it eventually be like one of those?

Its not showy at all at the moment no, but it will eventuly (in the next 12-18 months) be a full show car with carbon, boot build, lambo doors, etc. but when im at shows sometimes goes on the stand.

To knowlingly disobey the law to look "cool" is foolish, no?

Quite how that makes me a small-minded fool, i'm not entirely sure. Perhaps if something so trivial bothers you so much, it is you who is the fool with a small mind?

YOU see nothing wrong with altering spacing, but you are insignificant, it is the law that counts in these matters

I recently saw a plate written X20 TT. It should have been X2 OTT - big difference to me as the O is positioned to make you think it is a zero.

When someone hits another car or, even worse, a child, I want every road user to be able to easily identify the plate. Anything that makes this even the slightest bit more difficult should not be allowed.

Its not foolish aslong as you know the penalty and are willing to take the conciquences. I dont see why people get so defencive. And by saying about knowingly breaking the law....you have never done over 30 in a 30, or over 70 on the motorway?

Does that make my plates from GT Grafix illegal, as they don't have the postcode of the manufacturer and a BS on them?

The font and everything else is spot on (well, not 100% about the black EU flag background, as it should probs be blue) - bit of a bummer!

Yes, sorry, they are technically illegal.

I was going to get my plates made up by one of these online outfits, but in the end I went to Halfords. Proper legal plates with the Halfords name and postcode in almost invisible letters!

The regulations are there to make the identification of vehicles possible by automated computer systems, by the law and by the general public.

To those people who think that its ok to have strange fonts and irregular spacing or letter arrangments you should put your self in this position.

You have just been run off the road by a driver who would not stop a junction. You have wrapped your car round something rather hard and caused lots of damage. There are a few witnesses that say they saw the car but could not read the number plate, and the camera on the junction could not read the plate either, as it was an illegal text font. So your now hit with the bill for repairing your car, or the higher insurance premium after the repair. When the driver to blame could have been traced.

This has happened to a person i know, its not harmless mod. In fact to me its one of the most disrespectful ones out there.

Not worth the hassle..

My car failed its mot on illegal spacing.. not worth the hassle..

Yup they are cracking down harder now on these...

Cost me to hurridly get another set of plates made up..

Mine was spaced at the end...

M111NY F Should be M111 NYF

Not a great deal of diff but enough to get a failure , pull by coppers etc...
And you know what coppers are like when they get started..

P.S may be selling plate in anyone interested

Lambo doors are absolutely terrible on anything other than a Lamborghini. I have first hand experience of this.

But hey, if you like it then who cares?

People have different taste i suppose. I love Lambo doors on MINIs, as the have no pillars and look amazing with the windows down.

Not only is it important to have legal plates to abide by the law, if you look at it from the perpective that if you were unfortunate enough to have your car stolen, altered number plates cannot be read by ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras) Therefore the chance of locating your vehicle is smaller.

So, if you look at it from a security perspective it makes sense to keep your plates legal, after all, aren't they all unique already?!!
