Offline | Reduced Size Number Plate for R56 Hey, Just wondering if anyone has fitted or has pics of an R56 with reduced size number plates? I am thinking of ordering some that are about 1/2 as long as standard ones but am unsure how it would look with the factory screw holes.... Thanks Nick Just bought a Mini Cooper S !! |

Offline | I think it would look good / unusual but would it pass the latest MOT standards? Note: Secondhand Japanese cars imported to the UK have been given special exemption by the DVLA to allow the fitting of plates with smaller digits (a similar size to motorbike plates) because the cars come in with smaller Jap size plate apertures on their bootlids and bumpers. ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | It's £30 fine and VDN (Vehicle defect notice). Which means you would have to have some legal plates put on, take the form they give you to an MOT testing centre and get them to approve your car. I have done this. In actual fact - they're more likely to give you points these days, which kinda sucks. Yet the penalty for not displaying a front number plate at all is much less. So if it's a cleaner look you're going for - ditch the front plate. Figure that one out. ![]() |

Offline | How things are going with fines etc for number plates, in my opinion people have got to be a bit stupid to go around with illegal plates, dodging the law. ![]() ![]() The Orange Blob As My Avatar Is The Mascot Of JetAlliance Racing Called 'Carli'. |

Offline | Totally agree with you airbus. People who put on illegal plates (stupid fonts, weird spacing, altering letters and numbers, illegally placed screws etc.) are nothing but small-minded fools! Long may the clamp down continue ![]() Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | The following (below) stood out to me: Because I have seen quote a few plates with the cars owners name on, websites (I think I have seen a pic of one on here with the ECMC URL) etc. ![]() The Orange Blob As My Avatar Is The Mascot Of JetAlliance Racing Called 'Carli'. |

| 07' Cooper | bit harsh? i think some plates look really cool. for example, the euro styled pressed aluminium and the black/silver pressed aluminium. they are another touch to the cars individuality. fair enough they are illegal but as for small-minded fools...im not so sure |

Offline | Don't give the law an excuse to stop you. It's very likely that they will check every aspect of your MINI to try and find a few more things just to make the "pull" worthwhile. Why give them the satisfaction? ![]() May 08: Thanks to all of my friends on Mini2 for a lot of great times over the last 4 years. In future I can always be contacted here! |

| 07' Cooper | im a 19 year old lad, driving a MINI Cooper that isnt even a year old.....they dont need any thing to pull me, apart from 'we were just checking it wasnt stolen' which is what one officer said to me when he pulled me on a country lane. I was doing 45/50 in a national speed limit and had the audacity to tell me i was going a bit fast?! then when i said 'national speed limit isnt it??' he then moved on to ask me if i had stolen the car! the cheek! |

Offline | Show plates can be really great looking (get to a place cover your plate with a cool show plate then take off when leaving) but road legal is road legal and I think anything different on the roads is just stupid. Also Black heritage style number plates that match your car's colour schemes etc and these can look brill but these are also illegal. What about wheels and tyres that are so offset they protude from your wheel arches they look "cool" too! (Illegal but "cool") Like Chris or Helen (Hi!) say you might as well get the front limo tints to go with and just waste the money cos you'll have to get them removed eventually, when the police will stop you. Being Road legal is a massive part of being a responsible road user. That I respect. ![]() |

![]() :: 32mpg woo! :: | I had a play with some standard plates on my old car.. I removed the number plate mount, filled in the screw holes and stuck the cut down plates on. I thought it looked pretty good. In terms of spacing, the plates were legal, they just didn't have the BS standard something or other on them.. ![]() ![]() As good as it looked..I'm using standard size plates now ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Oh, and for you to make such a bold statement as that, obviously makes you a vastly intelligent person. I do agree that altered fonts and such do look a bit daft - but personally see nothing wrong with spacing or the like, as long as the plate can be clearly read, then I don't see the problem. Quite how that makes me a small-minded fool, i'm not entirely sure. Perhaps if something so trivial bothers you so much, it is you who is the fool with a small mind? ![]() |
