Recall Already . . .

Hi,

I had to take my Cooper S Convertible into the dealers, whilst at the service place, I saw the new R56 that my Mrs had ordered. When I went over for a closer look the dash top had been removed

Next day I spoke to the sales department to find out what the problem was, I was told that there is a issue with the reach adjust on the steering, when if it was pulled out vigourously then a wire in the steering locking mechanism could break, hence disabling the central locking.

that's not a recall, that's just a problem they found before the cars went "live". it's been mentioned a couple of times before.

this is the reason a lot of people didn't get their cars on launch day. hopefully mine wont have the problem as it was built after the problem was found.

It's true, I've been posting about this in several other discussions already, it's why hundreds of cars (like mine) have been delayed. Basically the "short wire" that is affecting some (but not all) cars is for the electronic steering lock. If the wire is pulled then it wont work the lock, or the ignition, so you're stuck.

When I was at a dealer last Friday there was a sales guy in the car vigorously pulling the steering wheel up/down, in/out for a minute or so.

I wonder if he was trying to induce a fault?
