Anyone else had a problem with bonnet release??

I was wondering whether anyone else has had a problem with the bonnet release on their R56? Mine's been awkward to undo since I got the car 3 weeks ago but when my boyfriend went to undo it this morning while washing the car it wouldn't open at all. I'm wondering whether this is a peculiarity of my car or whether it's a general problem with the new design?

No problems but the release handle certainly has a lot less feel about it. Harder to judge closing the bonnet as well, making sure it catches both sides without slamming it too hard.

the bonnet release is one of the fixes that are planned and is supposed to be put in place soon if not on the December builds

Hi, I haven't been under the bonnet but the release on the boot seems to work when it feels like it - I haven't had a mini before so I don't know if this is normal or not ?? It is sometimes easier to use the manual release than the key button ?

Also the boot has to be really slammed else it alarms?

i always open my boot with the fob, but i know what you mean about the alarm if the boot's not shut properly. only done it once, but i was sure it was shut when i pulled away as i have a habit of lifting the boot to make sure once i've closed it !

I have had the boot open alarm go off at least three times but when I stopped to check the hatch it was firmly shut each time...

Some of the launch cars at dealers had boots that required a good hard slam to close properly.

I've noticed that the bonnet release is very hard to undo, I'm worried that something will break....

Ditto that Steeve - I had to jump start the brother-in-law's BMW last night and I was half expecting it to break off in my hand!

touch wood, only problem I've had is with the Agatha Christie Mystery safety catch release on the bonnet itself (I know that the interior release is on the 'wrong' side of the car!)

When I was showing it off to friends, when I first got it, three of us gave up and had to look in the handbook before we found the obscure button and opened up the bonnet! I can imagine this is going to fool quite a few AA/RAC etc guys or non franchised garages!!

Very weird...in the beginning I thought that I might brake something when trying to open the boot by the button and then it seems like a mystery to locate the safety button in order to lift it up...I had to take a second and third look at the manual, being afraid of doing something wrong...

Oh hell yeah - big problem. Just broke mine trying to open the bonnet. The cable had popped out of its retainer inside the car - removed a piece of trim panel to put it back in place. Of course it popped out because of the excessive force required to open the bonnet.

Easily fixed though - couple of healthy blobs of grease on the bonnet catch mechanisms under the bonnet, and all is well - force required is now 'normal'. Can't believe they would not put any oil or grease on these catches?? A couple of months of corrosion, and they're going to have tonnes of people with busted bonnet catches because of this .....
