Auto Headlights

Mine haven't turned off yet! - It's been a bit grey round here lately but Sunday was sunny and they were still on!

Mine seem to be on most of the time as well.

Do you have Bi-xenons? The handbook on page 101 says the lights have a long life and low likelihood of failure provided they are not switched on and off a great number of times. As mine is garaged the lights come on every time I get the car out or put it away.

Having just had to have two new Bi-Xenons in our 2005 Range Rover which is also garaged and has auto lights on I am beginning to wonder if auto lights on is such a good idea.

No, I don't have the xenons, so I'm not too bothered about bulb life but I cant imagine that the lights are supposed to be on constantly but like I said, Sunday was quite bright and they were still on..................

Hello... Is your car set to have "daytime lights" on?.. When you put the lights on to "auto" I think it puts the daytime lights on. Mine were on all the time in the auto position so I have just changed the daytime lights option off, unfortunately it's too dark to see if this has stopped them being on all the time.

Mine do turn off if its very bright so they must be on auto. It just seems less sensitive than I expected.

Ive played with every setting with no luck. It seems they will be good for summer days but not so good in the depths of our dark british winters.

Canada Lights always on

In my new R56 MC the Xenon lights (low beams) are always on. Even when the knob is in the "off" position. I think this is the daytime running lights feature. I read the description in the manual on how to turn it off, but the menu in my car doesn't have that option. My dealer told me the Xenons are supposed to be always on. Is that true? Is there no way to drive the car with the low beams off?

P.S.: I'm in Canada. Maybe the MINIs in Canada/US have different options from the UK due to local regulations?

I had that problem. I took the car to the dealer and he eventually diagnosed a faulty pin connector. They are now much better but still come on when I drive in shaded lanes and off again when I get back into the sunshine.

True, in Canada, law requires them to be on. MINI should have used the fog lights for daytime running lights...less wear & tear on the Xenons

They use side lights for the daytime running lights. Which would also have to be on to engage the fog lights.

My MCS went back to the dealer for a couple of faults, one being the automatic lights were always on. The problem was the windscreen's reflective coating was too thick causing the sensor to think it was always dark outside! They replaced the windscreen and the problem is now fixed.
