need some help/ advice regarding the sunroof in our new s the problem seems to be a lot more wind noise than the one in our previous s are other people finding this. I am actually not sure if it is even from the sunroof is there wind noise from cars without sunroof? the actual glass of the sunroof seems to big to go flush with the opening not sure if this is correct. hope those with sunroofs can help thanks.

I have no real first-hand experience of this other than a recent test drive. The test car had the sunroof and half way through the test drive, the salesman asked me if I'd ordered one on our MCS (less than 5 weeks to wait now!). Once I had confirmed that I hadn't, he was happy to point out the steady woosh coming from above and admitted that they normally prefer an all metal lid on their demonstrators as it gives a better first impreession.

Not sure if this helps at all, but it does prove that dealers are well aware of this problem and that it is not uncommon. Whether it's a design or a build issue remains to be seen I guess - let's hope it's the latter as there's a bit more chance of it actually being fixable!

Have had the same problem, but only get it over speeds of 60mph. Been told by dealer that it's all down to the new front 'A' bracket design.

I bet that shut you up !!
So anyone know what or where the "A Bracket Design" is or does, other than act as scapegoat for everything ?

Wondering if some have noise and some don't. The one I tested would be driving me crazy if I had to live with it.

Saying that's the way it is is scary. Are people just living with it because there doesn't seem to be a large number of complaints.

I think most, (who dared to ask), have probably been told that it is a normal trait of the car.

... along with the Engine Noise / Gearbox Noise / Creaking Windscreen Noise / Poor Speaker Noise

As long as it It all adds character, it cant be a bad thing ... can it ?

Hi, I havent posted on here for a bit. Took delivery of my cooper s on the 6th december, I have just finshed running it in. I have a sunroof and have got the same whistling wind noise. I also have a bad ratte from it when going over bumps. Think it may be coming from the roof or blind mechanism. I havent said anything to mini yet as I have a couple of other issues as well and am going to give it to them all at once. (Ruler twanging noice from suspension, Engine noise/vibration when pulling off when engine cold and other little rattles) Would be very interested to hear from anyone who has any info.

Helen.

I know someone who's had problems with their sunroof. Apparently the dealer asked them if they'd used it a lot ( like what difference should that make !) and more worryingly '' did it work alright last summer''

I take you mean when it is open? I doubt you can use any open sunroof at speed

Hello to everyone!
I have an Mini C S R56, (end of Dec 2006) with sunroof.
I agree - the noise is getting horrible after 50mph, especially on windy days.
Do you know if BMW announced any call back fix for this?
The local dealer said that they know about this problem and they are investigating it.

Beside this I am very happy with my MINI but I cant enjoy it as I wanted :-(

Hi Ditheod, & Welcome to MINI2

Do you mean yours is noisy with the sunroof Closed ?

Either way ... as far as I know, there is no fix for it as yet.

Ive had sunroofs on all 3 of my 1st gen MINIs & never had any noise problems as such when closed.
When open I usually put up with any wind noise up to 80-100mph, but above that is does get a tad intrusive. Conversation usually gets drowned out above 70mph, but that`ll teach people not to talk to when I`m trying to Drive

Hello restyle again! Thanks 4 the welcome greetings.
Yes I mean that my sunroof is making noise Closed!! - especially on windy days!
Its getting annoying and I asked the local dealer about this.
He told me that they already know its an issue for the R56 and I have to wait.
Thats why I was asking here because I have been reading that other people
have the same problem.

Of course I dont expect my Mini to be noiseless with the sunroof open, but I expect
from an over 20k car developed from BMW to be descent with the sunroof closed.

Hope they will find a solution soon!

I test drove a Cooper S with a sunroof today (in the U.S.), and with the sunroof closed it made what, to me, was an incredible amount of noise. Essentially it sounded as if the sunroof was open a couple of inches, there's was so much whistling noise up there. It would drive me batty in less than a week if I had such a vehicle.

With the sunroof open the noise wasn't bad at all. (Obviously slightly more than with it closed, but psychologically there's a huge difference between a noise that you have control over -- sunroof open -- and one -- sunroof closed -- that you don't.)

I can't imagine what they are thinking shipping vehicles with this problem. I absolutely wouldn't *buy* one that made that kind of noise (much better not to have a sunroof at all, as much as I love having a sunroof).

Latest update from my dealer regarding the wind noise coming from the sunroof. They now saying that it could be something to do with the rear cartidges that might need re-adjusting or something like that. Funny thing was whilst I was in the dealership another customer was complaining of the same thing. Car has to go back in to have the leather seats replaced which, should have been done last week. However, after stripping out the old ones which took nearly 5 hours, they relised that then new ones that had been ordered through their parts department were the wrong ones. When it goes back in in a couple of weeks time which, is how long it takes for the seats to arrive from Germany! told the dealer to take another look at the sunroof and at the same time to re-fit and re-seal the windscreen. Hopefully this will get rid of the annoying creaking sound that it makes.
