I've seen various posters saying they have had problems with the hi-fi upgrade speakers so I've started a specific thread about this issue.

My Cooper S went back to the garage today to investigate a petrol/solvent smell, while it was there I got them to look at the my passenger side speakers and they were crackling and popping (I had run them in and never even turned the stereo up that loud, so nothing I have done had caused the problem).

They agreed with me that something is wrong and they are going to replace the tweeter in the a-pillar and the upper speaker in door. The speakers are on back order at the moment, not sure if this means that alot of them are getting replaced or if it's that they just don't keep that sort of thing in stock?

My passenger side speakers are exactly the same. When you put the balance to the right there is not distortion, but when you put it to the left they crackle like mad

Mine started as a crackle which then developed into a crackle with an occasional pop, it has pretty much stopped me listening to music in my mini as I find it so irritating. Wonder why the problem only seems to happen on the passenger side?

I think mine is coming from both sides, both speakers in each door are due to be replaced asap.

I can't get mine changed until Feb 9th, if you get yours done before could you ask them what the problem is, has the stereo blown the speakers, was there a dodgy batch of speakers, is it something else?

Same problem for me ... especially if any reasonable amount of volume or bass

Mines in on thr 5th Feb for the passenger side tweeter 2 be replaced. Hopefully it will sort out the crackle.

Mine's going in tomorrow to have passenger side rear speaker replaces as it's blown and read driver side tweeter has gone too. Pretty disappointed as I've been very carfeul and reckon they were knackered when I picked it up.

I too have this problem. Did any one find out why the passenger side speakers seem to fail? Verry disappointed with the hi fi option in genral to be honest...
