| Wants an Audi | I noticed a strange noise with my gear box in the past week or so. It happens when changing down gears, like a loud grinding noise. Car went in yesterday, great service (Woodmans) and got a very nice Park Lane cooper also had 2 phone calls to keep me informed. "MINI Technical" have advised that they remove the gearbox, inspect the fly wheel and report there findings. I will keep you all up to date with this on this thread. ![]() Now With Toyo Rubber!! ![]() Last edited by popey : Feb 23rd, 2007 at 04:21 PM. |

Offline | that's not good news Dave. I think there's another thread about transmission noise somewhere. Are you generally happy with the car, especially seeing as you specced it to the max and I've heard you're having hi-fi probs as well? Hope you get it back in time for the lanes run on Sunday! SSL |

| MINI2 Regular | Popey, how loud was the grinding, as I'm having problems selecting 1st gear and changing down from 3 to second (VERY NOTCHY) and getting a bit of noise, but not hugely loud ? smal edit: forget above, just been out in the car for a small drive and I am now getting a grinding noise changing down from 3rd to 2nd albeit intermittently. time to book it back in again I think... Offline | I had my mcs on 3/1/07. So far I had a call to say they wanted to fit the ashtray, which should take about 20 mins. 1 1/2 hours later they had also done a recall job which was to check the cable within the steering column, I think the ashtray was the hidden agenda. The last couple of days I have noticed a smell of petrol in the car, but now I know other people have had problems, I will monitor it more closely as I cant remember at what point of driving the smell appeared. Today my husband borrowed it and has told me there is an intermittent crunching sound on the gear box when he goes from 3 to 2. Do you get the feeling this isn't going to be a mini adventure!! Bring back the mini mayfair, never had a problem with that!! |

| Wants an Audi | The ash try is just placed in a cup holder, It takes 1o seconds to do yourself. I would call mini emergency services about the smell of petrol, It could be very dangerous. They will come out to your car and if it needs to go in will sort you out a car. Ive still not got a date yet for the parts for my car ![]() ![]() Now With Toyo Rubber!! ![]() |

Offline | Yeh, when I got back in the car and pulled the ashtray out, I realised the phonecall to book me in for the ashtray was obviously not the real reason or I could have just collected it and done it myself. I am going to check it out tomorrow, or let my husband borrow it for the day, and he can blow up instead of me and the kids!! Shouldn't joke about it really, but I half expected some problems before collection, its a bit hard to be anything but cynical when you have delays on a car and no explanation why. ![]() |

Offline | Have you seen the threads on the smell of petrol, it looks like I am not the only one. I came on here to look for anyone with gear box problems but thought I would check out the smell of petrol while I was here. I have had to phone the dvla aswell, as I collected my car on 3rd Jan and they only taxed my car until 30th November 2007. Seems more hassle than what its worth this car. Lovely to drive but can't be arsed with the problems that go with it. ![]() |

Offline | Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble going from 1st gear up to 2nd gear - also, sometimes its difficult to select 1st gear when in neutral, all other gear selections are fine Going to get someone else to drive it tomorrow to see if they notice it, maybe its just me (but I've an awful suspicion its not!!!!! )Last edited by devaisl : Mar 9th, 2007 at 03:19 PM. Reason: 1st up to 2nd gear, not down! Doh!! |
