Offline | 'Bark' from starter motor? Now this may not be a fault/fix, more of an observation, but I thought it might best sit in this forum. I think others have noted something similar - when starting up from completely cold there is always a fraction of a second squeaky 'bark' sound just as the engine fires into life. I guess this is coming from the starter motor. Subsequent starts, even straight after the first cold start, don't create the noise. Now I don't intend to bother the dealer about this, unless something related (and more ominous) manifests itself. What I'd really like (please!) is for the more technically minded to describe what they think may be happening on the first kick. Cheers SSL |

Offline | When I get mine back from the dealer I'll take a listen. Not something I'd noticed to be honest. Do you hear this clearly with windows closed sat in the drivers seat? There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

Offline | To be honest, you have to listen out for a bit. It's hardly noticeable if doors/windows shut, and the volume/duration when it does do it aren't alarming! Perhaps I should stop trolling the faults and fixes pages and just get out there and enjoy my MINI !!! SSL |

Offline | R56 Cooper Startup Noise Apparently I have been informed by Mini technical that this noise in startup is due to the oil pump priming itself from startup and is a characteristic of this particular engine. There is no news regarding any quality enhancement in the pipeline to cure this as yet Best wishes. ![]() |

Offline | I have only noticed this once from cold (but mine is Garaged so maybe not as cold as most). I did hear a loud "bark" from a Cooper that started up in my street the other day and it was very noticeable. |
