Hi everyone,

Damn! all the problems you guys/gals are having with the new Mk2 Mini is worrying me!
Are these serious faults?
Is the Mini still a good quality car to buy?
Has anyone had contact with BMW about their faults, and if so what did they have to say?

Cheers, Mark

Like any new "freshened up" model there is bound to be teething problems, and the fact that the other 80% will drive the MK1 MINI, there may be a few biassed opinions that it's not as good as the previous.

I contacted BMW both before and after delivery to complain about the delay in delivering the car in the first place, and then the broken mirror switch and the fuel leak.

Nobody ever bothered to phone me back, but it did get sorted out. I got the following in compensation....

Free TLC
Free Chrome Interior
£250 - for the pre-delivery delay.
£700 - for the fuel leak and mirror problems.

In the end I feel satisfied with the outcome, and so far the car is fantastic.

It was exactly the same when the MK1 came out, new car bound to have some teething issues

As long as the problems get sorted by BMW which im sure they will I wouldnt be worried about still purchasing one!

you also have to remember that many people only post on these forums if they have problem....... Unfortunately you don't get many people saying how great their cars are. It's the same on every forum, people will report problems.
Also as already said that the majority of mini2 members own mk1 mini's. Many will feel disheartened in their own model and it makes them feel better to slag off the new ones
Not everyone but a fair few.
Personally I loved my mk1 mini but I feel the mk2 is an obvious evolutiuon and is a much better put together car and is a bit more nippy. Mk.2 Mini forever!!! Well until the Mk.3 is out

I think the main problem cars have been from November or early December builds. I can't think of any real major faults that have appeared on later builds.

My late January build so far has been fine (touch wood)

Virtually anything can be retro-fitted (apart from the major mechanical stuff, obviously). Just because it isn't offered in the accessory catalogue does not mean the parts aren't available.

Retro-fitting the Chrome Line Interior is easy enough to do, but has never really been a 'recognised' accessory. It's the same with Aero Side Skirts or, until now, a Cooper S Fuel Filler Cap.

No significant issues with my Jan build R56S at the moment.

Did notice that one of the fog lights is a bit foggy after I cleaned it last (and not that impressed with HIFI upgrade) Also sometimes there is a strange buzzing type sound (not that loud) from left side of car but seems to have stopped now (not the stereo as continued when stereo off). Otherwise very nice and quiet inside the car, no rattles

Aside from these minor points (and I am very picky) the car is really good

I have an 04 build so cannot comment myself on the R56. However, when MINI emergency service came out to me earlier in the year, he said he had been trained up on the new car and mechanically he thought it seemed fantastic. Is it jut the very early ones having gremlins or is it continuing?

It's still early days so I think you can safetly say first years production cars will all have some sort of glitches which will hopefully be engineered out of the car sooner rather than later in it's life span

Dealer is first point of contact, then there's MINI customer service, you can find their details on the official MINI site.
