Transmission/gearbox noise - news!

As reported on an earlier post, I am unhapy with the grinding/dry growling sound coming from my Dec06 Cooper when pulling from low revs and expecially when it's cold - well now Victoria Mini agree with me and the are going to remove the gearbox and check the whole thing over next week with possible replacement of the box/clutch/flywheel/bearing. They say there's nothing on Puma about this It's booked in for 3 days

I'll keep you posted!

Sounds similar to this: http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-f...-agreed-5.html

I hope you have some luck with the replacement.

This is the same noise as mine Bert (see previous threads). I have been into my local Dealership and actually seen the puma reports & read both the reports on the sunroof noise & gearbox problem. Puma report regarding the gearbox states that no parts should be fitted until week 12 when they will have a fix for the problem, therefore very surprised that your Dealership are seeking to fit parts although the puma report advises against this !

I get an engine vibration noise/diesel imitation at low revs going up an incline when the car has just been started from cold. I've monitored this and it disappears as soon as the engine is warm/hot. I deduce that this noise exists only because the lubricants need a few minutes to circulate.

Well, there was a problem. When I took the car over on Tuesday night, they asked me for insurance details for the loan car - now call me naive, but I was expecting THEM to pick up the tab for the loan car.........especially as this is the THIRD time I've taken the car in for the same problem!! Apparently I have to transfer MY insurance to THEIR loan car for the duration of the repair time (you can imagine what that would cost!)................but they forgot to tell me.

Thing is, the way I see it this is a warranty issue, no fault of mine, so I expect repair to be made with minimum disruption to my time and certainly without cost! If I take my car to a body shop for repairs I get a loan car without cost and without transferring insurance.

They are now collecting the car from my home address next Wednesday, so I will be without it for 3 days. This is totally unacceptable to me and I will write to BMW telling them exactly how I feel.

My Mini experience is starting to dull

Oh dear. I haven't been back there for years, wouldn't trust them with a skateboard myself, based on personal experience.

I've used Elms in Bedford and been happy with them, but my regular is Wollaston in Northampton. It's worth the trip for me, and I live about 3 miles from the MK dealer.

My car insurance allows me to drive a courtesy car from a garage/bodyshop providing the car named on the policy is in the garage getting repaired - without having to notify them.

I find most garages ask for you to insure the courtesy car or charge like £10 per day to have you covered on their insurance.

My local dealer (Eastern) charges you for a courtesy car (I think it's £10 for the day, covered by their insurance) when the car's in for servicing, but NOT when it's in getting warranty work done. Which i think's fair enough, as warranty work can go on for ages if they don't have the right parts - and we should not be out of pocket for what is their problem!

This is warranty work - I do not accept any responsibility for insurance or anything to do with a loan car - that's for BMW to provide.

I took mine in about 1 month ago for the low rev noise. They told me there was no difference between mine and the demo so it is a characteristic of the engine. I have now done 5000 miles and i am sure it is getting worse. It is driving me bloody mad. Why would BMW accept a trait like this in one of their cars.
I am taking it back again on Tuesday for them to look at a screech I get from the gear box when changing down to second (when I am pushing it). I am going to push the issue of the labour noise after seeing all the posts on here.
For those of you who suspect driver error (seen this on other threads)..... rubbish !! I have to over rev it to stop the noise. Its crap... especially when you do the kind of miles I do. In traffic on the M25 .... It is a pain in the Axx !!

Rant Over !!!
