It just gets better....

Car will be off the road til the end of the month at least.

WHERE ARE ALL THE PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the blooming production line it would appear...

Still waiting on parts arriving and that is what is holding it up now... So far the car has had fitted:

new clutch assembly,
new flywheel (re-engineered)
new passanger wiper motor and mechanism
some of the alternator/v pulley parts (modified alternator still awaited)

parts awaited.
modified alternator
auto air-con heater control panel

Problems not investigated yet
Distortion from Speakers
Sound of running water in car.

The dealer is trying to get me a MINI to use as the 116 is doing my head in...

Thats terrible - after all the trouble you've had from MINI you'd think the least they could do is have the parts available for you!!!

For those that are interested in the rejection topic - this months what car page 153 (I think) tells you your rights. It is also on the what car website. It may help, it did with us.

the best thing to do when rejecting a car is get advice from the people that know. i have spent 6 months fighting my dealer. my new car comes friday. be nice no swearing, keep your cool. but be firm. call trading standards at any time, put the number in your mobile and call them. they are great people who hate car dealers as they make up most of their work!!!! in yorkshire they have the motor tade partnership to help out!!!!!!!!!!!

im going through my car armed with a list of faults i have divulged from here!!

my car is a driving school car, but that does not explain melting rear lights, gearbox gone at 12,000 miles steering columns broken x2, new speedo, air con faulty from 5 months old never fixed, rear pads wear out in 15,000 miles(this is not normal despite what we have come to expect, find another car that does this at the rear) there are other faults but im tired !!!

you can reject at point of sale if the goods are not as advertised or of satisfactory standard.

did bmw describe the seats in the chilli pack as half leather??? looks more like bits on the side!!!!

i have a courtesy car at the moment from mini, a r56 mini cooper, it has the rushing water sound. i cant find what it is. it sounds like its behind the dashboard and happens when its dry so that rules out water ingress. it also has the noise from the air con described in the thread ealrier. gearbox is sweet though and i have put 1000 miles in 10 days. car has now done 3000miles. there is bold patch under front headlight where there should be paint!!!

why do we keep buying them??? because when they are right they are bloody brilliant!!!

Well Wez, makes interesting if not painful reading - If I worked for MINI at the moment I would be trying to get my house in order...

to my car......

My car has now been in the garage this time for 14 days and how many faults are resolved ? 1

The fault they have fixed is the noisy wiper motor. Replace the wiper motors and full mechanism.. . The car is currently sitting in the workshop up on the ramp with no front end on it... (aircon, front bumper, gearbox, cross-member, lights etc etc) all sitting on the floor

The big problem is parts parts parts PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON MINI GIVE UP SOME PARTS FROM THE PRODUCTION LINE TO HELP OUT THE FAITHFUL MINI CUSTOMERS

well, tomorrow the 116ES goes back and there are finally putting me in a MINI....... a Mini One Convertible to be exact (well I did say I would take ANY MINI they could find...)

and I have been told to insure that car til the end of the month and that may not be long enough if the parts don't start to arrive soon.

at least my insurance company have been absolute stars, they have chopped and changed my policy and added all these courtesy cars on without a problem and charged me absolutely ZERO.

Hey craigd -

sorry to hear about all the problems you're having. Hope you get it sorted.

As far as the water sound goes you might want to get them to refill and bleed the cooling system. I think this is caused by an air lock in the system and is actually coming from you're heater also it is only really prevalent at low engine temperatures. (something to do with expansion when hot??).

Anyway had same problem on my cooper - spent two days looking for a half drunk coke bottle or similar which was causing the noise even took the de-icer out the boot but a refill and bleed solved the problem.

Sounds like Menzies are worse than our dealer was - I refused to accept the car on delivery (2002) because the dash was the wrong colour - they tried to bully me into accepting the car but I simply walked away. Spoke to BMW and next thing the manager of dealership was on the phone. We ended up with a courtesy car until new car was delivered fully insured by them and £250 worth of accesories fitted FOC. Took the car in for first service and same dealer 'lost' the TLC voucher book. Needless to say don't use them anymore even though they are my nearest.

Looks like us Scots are getting a rough deal on the dealer front although friends have raved about the service at the Edinburgh dealers.

Good luck and I hope they get it sorted.

hopefully the rushing water noise will be fixed when they put the car back together as the cooling system and air-con are all disconnected at the moment.. Fingers crossed..

Car now has a new flywheel and full clutch assembly fitted.

still no idea when the rest of the parts will arrive...

I am still having to insure courtesy cars (this car I got on Thursday and have been told to insure it til the end of the month.. )

as every day goes by I am getting more and more disappointed in MINI's handling of this problem.

Just keep an ear out for the noise, as I had the same work done the noise came back.

I hope you have better luck than me

thanks Popey, this is supposed to be the re-engineered flywheel that doesn't have the noise.. But I'm about 2 weeks away from getting my car back anyway, so hopefully my dealer will road test it thoroughly before giving me it back...

Car Update

Well, 26 days in and my car is back on 4 wheels.

The new flywheel and clutch arrived on Fri and got fitted. Tested the car today and the grinding of the gearbox is gone. Also the rattle from the engine at low revs has been fixed by installing a new modified alternator (allowing it to freewheel), new Aircon pulley part and V Poly Pulley Belt.

I have also had replaced 2 new wiper motors and full mechanism.

Parts still awaited. New Heater Control unit for Air con and new speakers.

Problems to be investigated still - sound of rushing/gurgling water is still evident. Also new problem of very noisy tappets, although this could be down to car being out of use for nearly 4 weeks.

Another update when I get it.
