Automatic light and wipers sensors

Does anyone have the automatic wind screen wipers and lights?

If so does anyone find them far to sensitive, our lights are on even when it's sunny sometimes and the wipers come on full even with the smallest amount of rain drops. We have had other cars with these functions that seem better and we also have a range rover sport that works much more sensibly.

Is anyone else finding a problem with this, can BMW/Mini do anything about it as our dealer thinks not as they couldn't on 1st gen's.

The lights are progammed to come on when the sun is low to ensure you are visible to those with the sun in their eyes.

You can get it adjusted. Ive got a 2005 MCS with auto lights/wipers and in my manual it says you can get the sensitivity adjusted at the dealers.

If you've got Sat Nav you can adjust the sensitivity of the lights, if you haven't hopefully your dealer will be able to adjust something, I hope they can becuase I want mine adjusted as you say they seem to always be on unless its bright sunlight.

I find the wipers perfect though personally

I have no problem with the auto wipers. But agree that the auto lights on keeps the lights on too much. We have a 2005 Range Rover ( not Sport) and it is much better.

In another thread it emerged that the sensitivity can be adjusted if you have Sat-Nav but when I asked my dealer whether they could adjust the sensivity on my R56 MCS ( without Sat-Nav ) I was told it was not possible.

One other thought on the auto lights on. If you have Xenons the hand book says they have a long life provided they are not switched on and off too often. But with auto lights on I find the lights switch on and off much more often so am wondering if the auto lights on is such a good idea

Wife has just got back from dealer as been told sensitivty can NOT be changed, that's rubbish.

Also ordered automatic folding wing mirrors which haven't worked since we got car early Jan, 3rd time it's been in to sort having waited 4 weeks for new switch and they still can't get it sorted! Not happy!!!

Perhaps I really shouldn't read all these reviews. My March 1st mini never made it out of the garage - fuel pump problem (apparently) since I have ordered the autosensors & the folding wing mirrors I am wondering what else I am letting myself in for.
The auto sensors on my golf are really useful, which is why I specced them.
Fingers crossed for delivery next week with everything working!

Auto folding mirrors are not an option on the R56. You must fold them by using the control on the door.

You are implying that the wipers come on of their own accord. I was told when collecting the car that I have to nudge the stalk to set them off; so they won't start at all unless you feel they are needed.

Was I misinformed?

No that's correct. Sounds silly but you have to turn the auto wipers on! One nudge up on the stalk does it. The auto headlights can be permanently set though so no need to nudge anything there.

I have to agree, I find the lights and the wipers a bit on the sensitive side. Just drove home and there were about 2 spots of rain on the screen and the wipers were having a field day! Ended up with grime smeared all over the windscreen as the wipers kept going, albeit intermittently, when there didn't appear to be any rain at all.
