Consumer Report: Latest Reliability Ranking

Perhaps such reports will cause BMW / MINI to realize that performance alone is not sufficient.

Consumer Reports' Annual New Car Reliability Predictions See Lexus Slip, Lincoln Improve

US: Lexus slips on predicted reliability - consumer survey: Automotive News & Comment

MINI is marketed as a fun-to-drive car. How much fun will owners have if their MINI is frequently in the shop?

How can CR review an auto that has only been on sale here for about a week? I think their testing procedures must come into question. Just remember they haven't met a Japanese car they haven't loved. Some years ago there was a cartoon showing a group of people rolling cars off a sheer two hundred foot cliff. The caption was..."It's only Consumer Reports testing this years new cars" "Nuff said.

The reliability ratings are based upon reports from CR readers. 1.3 million provided information this year. I find thier ratings to be very reliable.

By the way, they reported that Nissan products are very inconsistent in quality. It also didn't have nice things to say about Mitsubishi. Last time I checked, those were both Japanese manufacturers. Maybe the reason Honda and Toyota appear at the top is because their cars are well made.

CR hasn't tested the new Mini yet. Nor did they say they had. They reported the hatchback was redesigned for 2007 and that reliability of the previous models was average or better. And the cabrio is below average.
