Angry Paint Quality R56 Cooper

Nice day today so I washed my car. And i've noticed my black roof has loads of fine scratches and round marks if you look closely. Its only a couple of weeks old with 500 miles on the clock.

Also someone wrote "clean me" in the dirt on the roof and it took forever to remove and ended up having to t-cut it out. Never ever had that sort of problem with my old S

Anyone else had issues with their paint work damaging easily or looking scratched, the roof in black shows it by far the most.

What colour was your MINI before? The black is horrible to maintain, although wonderful when it's clean and shiny.

the main downside to black ownership

any other color you wont notice as much

you need an electric polisher to get rid of those so ive heard and seen

still wouldnt put me off buying black

with my old R53 (some call it "the proper mini" ) even if i brushed the hose pipe gently on the bumper it shown as a scratch

just extra care needed really and if it gets to be an eye sore - wax on, wax off daniel-son

I had a Dark Silver roof before so I guess the metallic is a lot better at hiding the scratches, also it had a sunroof, and my new one doesn't so again that will make things more noticiable.

All OK here with LB/W and have washed it almost every week since having it in December. Paint seems fine and have been careful with washing and polished a few times.....

The white roof is much easier to maintain. I'm having a nightmare keeping my black roof clean, and worry about scratching it all the time.

Mine seems OK at the moment.

I am using a Meguiars microfibre mitt and the two-bucket method of washing. I also make sure never to rub hard. If I ever get a bird poop, I give it a good soaking or put some neat car shampoo in it so it lifts off easier.

It is impossible to keep paint perfect and mark free for ever. Some imperfections can show up in bright sunshine.

On both my current R50 Cooper with black roof, there are loads of fine scratches. It seems to be the roof paint rather than the body paint that is prone to this. They're only noticeable up close, and most of them will probably polish out when I next give it a good going over.

I find that direct sunlight on the roof tends to highlight the scratches too. My R50 Cooper's roof looks fantastic apart from when sunlight shines directly on it when it looks scratched and swirly.

Your right it does get accentuated by sunlight and bright light, think i'll just take extra care when cleaning the roof!

I have a black MINI with a white roof... Black is lovely to look at... but hmmm not so nice to try and keep clean all the time.... After cleaning it I can already see dust and crap forming on the bonnet and it makes me mad that all the hours I put into cleaning it, it still looks like $hite`

If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off!

Don't forget that even if it's new it has probably been through the dealers car wash and despite their protestations their car wash does scratch the laquer. I used to have the problem with a solid black MINI ONE I had previously.I used Meguiars scratch X and it was fantastic. It got rid of the horrible marks. Of course the next time I took it for some work at the dealers I forgot to ask them not to send it through the car wash so it came back with the same swirly scratches on again. Back out with the Meguiars scratch X and it was gone. It's about £8 from Halfords.

Scary thing is I passed my local dealer in Giffnock up here in Glasgow and there is Building works with temporary lights right in front of the dealer.

So I’m sitting thinking there is a nice few Mini’s and ****ed at the dust being kicked up with the wind on my car but more Shocking was the guy in the dealership battering the Mini’s on display outside going from car to car with the same old dirty sponge and not ever rinsing off the dust before hand.

I felt like saying “Mate leave them be I’ll do it for free if you let me do it right”

All those nice cars getting scratched to hell……..
