Offline | Hot Bonnet Hi all, Hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question but having just switched off my MCS after a 10 mile drive with only the occasional blast the heat on my bonnet just above the turbo was so hot i couldn't touch it, surely this will eventually ruin the paint? I would have thought the 'padding' on the underside of the bonnet would reflect/absorb most of the heat? Has anyone noticed this on their cars? or am I worrying about nothing?! cheers Den |

Offline | made the same observation, about a month ago and the feedback suggest this is normal - i agree, scorching from just behind the scoop. But it does not always get this hot, and like you i did not rag mine. On my post, there was interesting discussion about how the heat could potentially damage bonnet stripes- since they are suppose to be removable with the heat from a hairdryer!!! |

Offline | What I've done is when I get close to home I drive slower and keep the rpm's down 1/2 mile or so, this helps alot before I couldn't put my hand there for over 3 seconds when I would drive hard right to the garage.Nieghbors probably happier to . |

Offline | Last night... after 15 mile drive home (am still running my MCS in (2 weeks old, 450miles), so no full throttle, etc. but still enjoying my drives up to 4500revs, 90mph)... Anyway, parked car on driveway and walked around front of car and felt HEAT (also that new car/hot engine smell?)... Touched bonnet near scoop, and WOW... sizzling hot to touch!! This morning straight on here to search, and here I am in a recent post. It does worry me just how hot it was, and what impact would have long term on paintwork/stripes (but I don't have stripes, so no worry there). Must be normal(?) judging by how many others have observed following my search result this morning. Still going to mention to Dealer though. |

Offline | apparently turbos can reach an operating temperature in their 1000'sC, so the heat shield would have absorbed much of the energy......if there is one upside, any straying cats won't want to snooze on your bonnet at the risk of cooking themselves!!! ![]() |
