Offline | Rattling Storage Compartment Lid My dealer has ordered a new Storage Compartment Lid for my MCS because it is constantly rattling. Apparently the parts are on back order at the factory but should be here in 2 weeks. First 1,000 miles done and this is the only problem that ive had since day 1 and the car has been superb. ![]() |

Offline | Dash rattles fixed Annoying innit? Glad you've got it fixed Tonyrec. Just got mine back from a couple of rattles to be sorted (and fixed ) - hope this list can help others out there...........*Rattle around glovebox / passenger airvent area - turned out to be a an unused electrical plug BEHIND the dash that rattles on the top of the glovebox casing. *Rattle from same area, but heavier sound and set off by bigger road imperfections - the battery clamp (and battery) were lose .Now rigged for silent running ![]() ![]() "He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River." |

Offline | Thanks for the tips Medilloni, I'm going to check my battery clamps right now! ![]() As for the electrical plugs behind the dash... did you have to take anything apart to get to those or do you just stick your head into the footwell and look upwards? Offline | Hi Andrew, good luck with the battery clamp - when I got the car back I glanced inside the box and couldn't see the clamp - or how to get to it!!! I'll take a closer look this weekend...... The electrical plug behind the dash; it's behind the panel that is used for the extra storage (or CD changer?). Not sure how that's removed. (The one that is coloured/textured as part of the interior trim package you've got) AND, and I've just found another rattle. It's from the metal bar underneath the passenger seat that looks like it's the rear part of the seat adjuster bar. Now fixed with a velcro strip. Last time I stuck my head in the footwell and looked up, the missus was in the passenger seat. Forgot all about the rattles............... ![]() "He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River." |

Offline | Hmmm... I couldn't figure out where the battery clamp was either. lol I'll have to take a bit more time out tomorrow and have a more thorough hunt for it.As for the electrical plugs, I think I know what you're talking about there and I might be able to find those. Watch this space for a triumph over rattles in the near future! Those velcro strips sound rather handy... I'm going to have to go out and stock-pile them. And sticking your head in the footwell makes you forget all about the rattles, eh? I'll have to try that one... Andrew. Offline | Yup, Velcro rocks - got the idea from some interesting underwear designs a few years ago. Hmm, with so many rattles to cure, maybe there's another use for quick release knickers. Other source for rattles are: *Front and rear passenger seatbelt (the metal/plastic bit) rattle against the side panel or/and the front passenger seat - depending on it's position. *On the MCS the fuel filler cap rattles (velcro wins again). *On the Cooper and the S, most have a badly fitting/loose rear fog light/s as standard which add nicely to the funky beat. Thinks Wearing knickers on his head as a cunning disguise, and armed with nothing but velcro, blue-tac, bogeys and superglue, he fought the might of the whole German car maker. Previously known as BMW. "Ach zo Englander, you sink you haf ze anzwers fur mein teenzy veezy quality problem?" Enquired the MINI Top Banana. "Yes Jerry, Take these knickers and put them anywhere where the sun don't shine. That should fill a few gaps" replied the plucky Tommy. The MINI Top Banana recoiled in horror, "Mein Kampf! You look zo diverent mitout your underhosen!" Tommy, conscious of the slow dribble emenating from Top Banana's moustachio'd Mouth said, "Now don't forget to hand this miracle cure to all your troops, er, sorry, I mean dealers" "Ve are zo greatful Tommy, iz zer anysing ve can do in return fur you?" Dribbled TB, now admiring Tommy's knickerless form. "No" said Tommy. Running. Very fast. ![]() ![]() "He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River." Offline | teenzy veezy quality problems <-- me laughing in hystericsI've managed to order a few sheets of sticky-back felt, as I figured I didn't need the hooked side of the velcro... for the car. ![]() I'll let you know how it goes when my stockpiles arrive. In the meantime, keep up the good fight against Jerry! lol NeuroBeaker - Proud owner of "Zeus" (a 'slightly modified' 2004 MINI ONE). *WARNING!* Thesis writing in progress. Experiments continue.
