Offline | There should be little "sellotape" discs where the rubber bumpers sit. My R50 has then as does the R56. On my R56 there are not sticking too well and will need replaced soon. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

![]() I'm Behind YOU !! | the little discs are there, but the bung has gone out of shape and has been hitting the side of the body work, i have tried twisting the bung around to change the angle it hits the bodywork, but it has just gone back to hitting it , the door fits well and there has not been any problem with it either . |

Offline | On mine the little plastic circle on the one side has shifted out of position, can these be changed at the dealer then? My paint isn't getting rubbed though (yet!). mind you my husband's Seat Leon has the same plastic circles and his have shifted too. Must get him to get them changed. |

Offline | Just been and had a look at mine. Same problem ![]() Mine's on the near side only (Lordy you said offside but your photos show the nearside is affected??) and the rubber bung is bent also, just on the near side. Let me know how you get on at the dealers, I'll be interested in what they have to say. |

| VW GT Sport 170 TDI | Is it actually rusting? I'm wondering if what you are seeing is just dirt trapped in the adhesive discs rather than real damage? I say this because the photos of the rubber stoppers show them to be clean? ![]() FWIW - when I had an R56 Cooper, the rubber stops were bent almost 30 degrees away from being 'straight'. I thought it was a bit naff, but it didn't seem to be doing any damage. |

Offline | Took some pics of mine. The paint is coming off to the left of where the plastic circles should be (I say 'should be' as there aren't any on mine!). You can see the white on the pics where the paint has worn away. The plastic circles wouldn't make any difference, I don't think, even if they were there as I can see where they should go and the paint has come off in a different area. |

![]() I'm Behind YOU !! | My main problem is the nearside ( ie near the pavement) there is no rust , but there is paint rubbing off, i found out yesterday that the rubber stops actually twist in and out of the tailgate ( to give min and max adjustment) , and these are used to align the tailgate and also to stop any rattles with the door, as they put back pressure on the lock when closed. they are still waiting for the body shop to come back to them , to say what they are going to do ? |

Offline | Hi all, Yes my R56 has the same problem, noticed it a few weeks ago. Its happening on both sides although the nearside is worse. This seems to have started after some wet weather which I think has loosened the sellotape covers. Have to get the dealer to check. |

Offline | My nearside rubber stop was bent over slightly from new. I turned it 180 degrees to bend the other way. Since then it has straightened up and been alright. These clear plastic circles are a bit cheap and dont seem to stick very well. The one under the bonnet that aligns with the switch missed completely on mine. I replaced the clear plastic circle with one cut out of black insulation tape ( two layers ) so that it aligned with the switch to protect the paintwork - I have had to do this on several cars. |

Offline | Well, I checked on mine after reading this thread and found one of the clear discs has come completly off, while the other was prety close. After cleaning off the rubber goo and prepping the area for a fix, I could see there was a tiny area on the driver's side that was rubbing on the paint, but hadn't gotten through it (only about a 2-3mm round scuff). Both my rubber feet seem OK. Looking at the clear adhesive discs I've come to the conclusion that they're crap. Even replacement by the dealer is going to lead to the same result, sooooo... I decided to try somthing else: I grabbed a set of industrial streangth adhesive Velcro discs from my local hardware store, instead. They're about 2 1/2 inches around and use a pretty strong 3M adhesive. I just used the soft, loop side, not the scratchy hook side and stuck them in place of the clear plastic ones. I positioned them a couple mm's up the side of the trough, where the paint was showing some wear, too. We'll see how they hold up over the next few weeks. Again, I can't help but think it's a better solution than re-applying the same clear plastic discs. Wee shall see. ![]() Founding member of R56 Anonymous: "Hello. My name is Mike. | MINI2 Master | Could this just be an adjustment issue. If the bungs are out too far then they'll bend to suit. Has anyone tried adjusting them inwards ( shortening ) without going too far and having a rattly tailgate. Lordy, you might have to do this, to make up for the thickness of the velcro pads. 06 HB/W MCS Chilli |
