Offline | 07 MCS Noisy & Rough on Startup -- Then Fine I took delivery of my 2007 MCS on April 28. The car has been excellent, with expected great handling, acceleration, and braking. After about 2400 miles, I am getting 35 mpg average, and thoroughly pleased. One question, though: In late May and now in June, sometimes on startup the engine will run rough and make unusual noises for up to one or two minutes. Then it smooths out, and runs fine. This usually occurs just after a change in the weather, such as a shift in humidity and temperature (I live in Iowa, with humid-continental climate). The other day it happened after I gave the car a thorough bathing and waxing. Is the computer just adapting to new conditions as read by the engine sensors? |

Offline | Hi, welcome to MINI2. Could you be more specific about the "unusual noises"? Are they rattly, squeaky, like something rubbing? You may get a better/clearer response with a little more information on the noise itself. ![]() |

Offline | Startup always happens easily and immediately. Then, if the noise occurs at all, it is after the engine has started to idle. I recall a rattling or scraping sound. Today the weather was cool and dry, and the idle was noise-free and smooth. |

Offline | If you take a search (www.mini2.com/forum/search.php) of this forum then you'll find quite a few posts relating to rattling or rough idling. Some worse than others. Try searching for rattl* (which will get rattling rattles rattle etc) or idl* In just the 2nd gen faults and fixes forum. You should fine a fair amount of useful information. |
