Offline | Backstory: I had an 03 MCS which I traded in for an 05 MCS with very little depreciation. After much research (and negotiating with the wife) I decided to trade in the 05 MCS with 47,000 miles for an 07 MCS, instead of buying new tires and brakes. I'm regretting that decision. Car was delivered with a warning light on (DSC). Since I was nervous about driving the 05 I was trading in, I took my dealer at his word and agreed to take possession of the 05 despite the warning light. By the next morning, the DSC warning was joined by a BRAKE warning light. Back to the shop -- told that both lights are due to one faulty part, which WAS ON ORDER. Told it would be a week, tops. Week later, no part. But now the headlights won't turn off, the key fob gets jammed in the holder (thank goodness for the convenience package!) AND the windshield wipers turn on and off at will. But the dealer claims the part could be here soon, "since my car is not the only one with the warning lights on -- we have another on the lot with the same problem!" Not a good sign, eh? Oh, and did I mention the car needed an alignment, too? Good grief. And, of course, the wife won't let me forget that she didn't want me to trade in the "perfectly good white Mini." I just want to have fun like I've had for the past four years of Mini motoring. But until this new car is in good-as-new condition, that's not going to happend. |

Offline | Dont want to be a doom monger but parts have been a bit of a problem for the 2nd gen MINIs, they seem to be taking time to get in many things for warranty repairs, I hope this isn't one of them. |

Offline | My '05 R53 MCS is a keeper. I have 29K troublefree miles on it and already had it fully serviced by MINI. Bought a new set of second gen Goodyear runflats. Car looks, feels and rides as good as the day I took delivery over 2 and a half years ago. I love this car. Next, I am purchasing the new MINI scheduled service contract that extends the basic 3 year/36K mile factory service to 6 years/100K miles whichever comes first. For a mere US$1,300 I'll have all my oil changes, brake pads, rotors, bulbs, coolant, fluids even the entire clutch assembly covered for the next 7 years! That service plan is a no brainer and will allow me to enjoy this car for a full decade without paying an added cent for maintanance! If I were you, I would unload the '07 R56 MCS and start searching on dealers around the country for left over, unsold new '06 R53 MCS stock, or perhaps, get back into an used '05 or '06 R53 S. The R56 is a first year car, so problems are bound to happen. Never buy the 1.0 version of any car, ever! Good luck. PS: Next time listen to the wife. She is often right... 100% Free of French parts |

Offline | I will ' touch wood' before saying this: - Got my MCS on 5th July 07 and have clocked 1700 miles so far. It's averaging 38.0 mpg and have no problems or rattles so far apart from a ' high pitched whistling noise' around the windscreen area at speeds above 95 mph or lower if driving into the wind! Spoke to the dealer about the noise, and have to make an appointment to take them for a test run. |
