| 07' Cooper | R56 Owners Guys.....in need of some help. Ever since i got my R56 MC the clutch has made a horrible sound when you change up/down gear. Also, when acelerating i get a whine similar to a supercharger whine (and i dont have 1 of theose!!). Also when stationary you can hear the car ticking over really loud clicking sound. Anyone had any of these problems?? |

Offline | Adam i think they have redesigned the Fly wheel but some other members have have gear box replacements, i have seen on a thread, hope it is not to bad and get back to enjoying your Mini adventure. As for noise we have May built MCS and my Desil BM is quieter but as Mini say it is normal or a good answer till they can fix the problem with face lift car. ![]() |

Offline | Mine sounds very tappety too, but like the others have said, I just put it down to the direct injection. No noises from the clutch (other than, recently, an annoying 'rusty spring' sound) though. |

Offline | My fathers FSI (direct injection) Audi A6 makes the same ticking noise....again due to the high pressure injection.....its completely normal for the type of engine.....would rather have that than poor economy ![]() |

Offline | Agreed ![]() My 1.6FSI mkV Golf did this as well. It almost sounded like a diesel at tickover and when pulling away until it had about 5k miles on it. I think what happens is that they spray in a minimum amount of fuel in the low rev range. In the Golf it was in "fuel stratified injection mode" until about 3k revs. FSI = fuel stratified injection Red/Black R56 Cooper |

| 07' Cooper | Cheers for the responce guys - i thought it may be some problem with the gearbox as the noise is worse in 3rd gear, and is quite difficult to get into 3rd sometimes. I have the noise and quite bad economy - i get 300 miles on a tank if im lucky compared to my mums 40/450 miles in her MCS! |

Offline | The Cooper has a smaller fuel tank - 40l instead of 50l in the MCS. What mpg are you getting. Miles to a tank is very subjective as some people will fill at a different level to others. Also, the gauge is not very accurate - each light is about 30 miles or so between being on and going off. I am averaging ~43mpg BTW. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

| 07' Cooper | oh okay, that would probly answer the 150 miles difference. Im not sure as i dont have the onboard computer - i always make sure it full to the brim! However i do quite alot of motorway driving because of my ice hockey and other half living an hour away! and i take advantage of the speed limits too . I think one major influence on the fuel is my wheels - i did about 370/400 miles on a tank with my 15s but gone down to 300 with the 18s haha oops. |

Offline | According to the computer my MCS is doing 38.1 mpg from new on 05/07/07 with 17" wheels. The highest reading was 41.0 mpg on long runs with the Sports Button off just after I got it. As regards adam_Randell and his 18" wheels are concerned, I would guess the high fuel consumption is due the 'latent inertia' of larger wheels i.e. you have to use more throttle to overcome it. For MCS owners who wish to economise, then drive with SB Off! |
