Hello everyone, this is my first post. I kind of stumbled across Mini2 when googling for an answer to a problem I'm having. Not sure if anyones' tried this, but I'll ask anyway!

I took a gamble and bought an H4-3 HID Bi-Xenon conversion kit for my wifes R56 Cooper D. The standard lights are the worst I've ever seen on a new car in the last 20 years! Why BMW went back in time and fitted H4's I have no idea!

The kit is basically H4 bulbs that 'slide' in/out when going from full beam to dipped.

Anyway, I fitted the kit but I got warnings saying the bulbs are out which I beleive is due to the car sensing a different resistance to the standard bulbs. I ordered a fix for this which is basically plug in line capacitiors. Dipped lights work perfectly and are vasyly better than the standard lights.

The main problem is that when on high beam the wiring harness relay switches on and off very quickly and the lights flicker on and off very fast. It only does this on full beam though and not on dipped.

Does anone know why? Has anyone else retrofitted on a R56??

I have a mini cooper R56 which i bought it this year.
the lights are the worst tha I've ever seen in any car!!!
So i bought from ebay a HI CONVETION KIT but i had a warning problem saying the bulbs are out.
If anyone know how to fix this problem or what capacitiors i must buy,please let me know...

Hi, I've been selling HID kits for several years, the problem you're seeing is due to the lower resistance of the bulbs in comparison to standard ones.

Essentially you've added an in-line resistor that helps the situation, however as the ECU/CANBUS on the vehicle is not 'seeing' the correct resistance it's pulsing the lights. In some vehicles it will just kill the power to the headlight on one side or on a particular beam.

There are companies out there that sell flicker cancellers, personally I've not gone the HID route yet (Ironic really) but I purchased my R56 as a Stealer Demo, I will go the route of perhaps purchasing a set of replacement headlights, all be it without washer & leveller...

Xenons with out proper levelling?
