Angry Problems w/new Cooper S - need advice

Hi everyone!

My wife bought a 2007 MCS in june of this year. When we got the car home and washed it for the first time we noticed the passenger door was not aligned properly. We took it back to the dealer and after much head scratching they determined it could not be adjusted and that it should never have left the factory that way! The only thing to do was replace the car, so they ordered an new one from the factory with the same spec and it came in October.

We picked up our new "replacement" MCS in early November and it immediately started leaving drops of oil on my garage floor. We took the car back to the dealer and left it with them for a few days while the waited for a new oil pan gasket. When we picked up the car and brought it home it again leaked on my garage floor! Same as before!!

We took it back last week again. They have had it for a full week trying to figure out the problem. They just called and said the engine block is cracked and they need to replace the engine! THE %#$&! CAR ONLY HAS 350 MILES ON IT

I am now disillusioned with the car and may ask them for my money back and go buy something else....

We do like the car but, I'm definetely shaky on this and want to hear from others.

Sorry for the long post..

Dennis

Stick with it Dennis, I'm sure as a dissatisfied customer you could bargain more extras out of them.
The problem I feel the old car and it's problems are still stuck in your head, if BMW can fix the Oil leak then let them do it.
Providing they furnish you with a replacement car during the delay of fixing.

You'll love the car once you get out motoring again

Just a case of rotten luck mate - it is the few and far between MINI with so much trouble (worst I have had in 4 years was needing a new A/C unit because the dealer found a leak in it). It'll be fixed better than new (since new was not so good).

Thanks for the advice, they are providing a rental during these periods, and we did get to put 6,000 miles on the first car with the crooked door while we waited for the replacement. (this is how we know we really do like the car!)

I just hope they get the new engine in the car and hooked up and everything works properly.

Hi..
Replacement engine at 350 miles!!
There is no way I would accept that - they are going to have to pull the front end to bits in order to replace the engine and it never all goes back together without clear evidence that it has been apart.

You could easily run this car for the next 10 years (if maintained properly) and never have to do anything as extreme as rip the engine out.

Reject - Reject - Reject!!

Hope it all works out for you.
Cheers, Geoff.

Hey Dennis, I second Drainaudio's suggestion! Reject/Lemon the car

I'll take a car with a misaligned door over a cracked engine block anyday of the week!

You seem to have rotten luck with these cars. But whatever you do, DO NOT ACCEPT A CAR WITH A FATAL ENGINE FAILURE AFTER JUST 350 miles That is absurd!

I think you should take your money and run. Get something else. You are not meant to be a MINI owner

Oh dear, not good luck with first 2 MINI ownership, I would suggest you want another build followed by some strongly worded letters to the dealer principal and MINI UK, they may then offer you some extras at no extra cost.
I concur withother comments that you have a lemon car and to reject, if the 3rd car has the same faults, then perhaps look at another brand

He lives in the USA....

I think his dealer has been very accomodating so far. Just a rash of bad luck with both cars. I think he should have kept the first one. A misaligned door is not nearly as bad as a cracked engine block at 350 miles.

I would say, try again, have the dealer order a third replacement... And if that doesn't work, call it a day with MINI ownership.

Send a letter to Jim McDowell.... He is the president of MINIUSA.

I know that all cars are going to have problems from time to time, but replacing an engine on a brand new car is not typical, and not what I paid full price for. Besides I don't believe they sell citroen her in the USA!

Yeah.........ok..

Let's see you drop the best part of £20k (or very easily more) on a new Mini (and as much as I love them they are stupidly expensive compared to other "small cars" - because.....oh yes they are meant to be a "premium" brand) and have problems literally minutes after you drive it off the dealers lot while wincing at the instant (although not too bad with the Mini) depreciation..

I don't think you'd be so cool.........

The first car should have never passed quality control and been shipped to the US if the alignment issue cannot be adjusted.

The second car may just be a case of bad luck, however a cracked engine block at 350miles should not be the customers problem especially considering the product is from BMW - "the world's largest premium auto manufacturer"!!

Cheers, Geoff.

Update,

So the "regional rep/ Guru" came to the dealership to see the problem and said it wasn't a crack in the block after all, but the front crank seal. They replaced it and drove and checked it several times in the last few days to make sure of the cure. They steam cleaned the entire underside of the car and delivered it to our home, and picked up the rental car we had been driving for the last two weeks.

The car is happily at home now and we are hopeful this episode is over with
