My car has spent 5 days at the dealer over the last month or so to have dash rattles fixed..and as I speak they seem to have cured them all.

Now all I need is the engine rattle sorted and I might even star to enjoy the car...

Dealers don't get paid as much for their mechanics' time doing warranty-ordered work as they do with customer-ordered work. Call me pessimistic, but I think some dealers can be particularly skilled at making customers feel embarrassed about continually bringing their car in for warranty work. It certainly got to that point with my R50, with the number of trips I had to the dealer for warranty fixes.

In the end, I found it more effective to drop the car off with a typed (but signed) letter to the service manager detailing my exact complaint for them and my expectations for the successful resolution. I found this made things go much more smoothly, as there was very little wiggle room for 'miscommunication' or 'misunderstandings' when everything was printed in black and white.

Remember: they should be embarrassed that your car has come back, you shouldn't be embarrassed for taking it in under warranty. Good luck!

All the best,
Andrew.

I'm very happy with my R56 Cooper D. Even my tiny lighting cluster rattle has disappeared by itself!

Sadly - problems are not confined to any particular fuel model!
The R56 in my opinion is just not a good car! period!

As for the knock about the tractor, - the new Diesel engine is the best thing about the whole range! I only wish they had built the first Gen with it

Mine too. When cold first thing in morning buzz buzz buzz otherwise its reasonably quiet

Still can't get of the rear hatch rattle which my dealer assures me is not a common fault to R56's at all

Have you got one? If not how can you make this statement?

It is a great car, despite some people having problems - just like the R50 or any make of car.

BTW, I have tracked down my ocassional rattle. It is coming from the panel beside the passenger side footwell air outlet.

Got some time off soon, so plan to remove it (3 torx screws) and fit some padding.

Unfortunately Ken the answer to that is YES!!
Will have had a CooperD for a year in May! really don't like the car at all! I feel we are being shafted to F**k by BMW for a inferior designed/built/tested/soul-less product at an even more inflated price.
Not a patch on the old car IMO !
I was apprehensive about shelling out premium prices for our last car as a "runabout" - now feeling totally Ripped off for a car that is really not that "special" anymore.
As a long time BMW owner, and still am with an E90 320D M Sport, I cant help but feel that if BMW owners were being Shafted in the same way over product and service then the company would have a crisis on its hands!

I stand by my words - Bad Car!

Why the F**k should you be doing that?

Lets face it, MINI have had 6 years to get the product right! - what couldn't be fixed in the first Gen should have been designed out in the 2nd!! This should not still be happening!!
Thou I can see good reason for doing the repair yourself! - as most dealers either fail to find fault, fob you off that it isn't covered by warranty, or do attempt a repair only to make a complete haems of it!!

Well, we are poles apart. Much as I liked to look at my 2002 ONE - it was a total pile of cr*p compared with the R56.

1. The interior quality in mine was absolutely rubbish. In the garage numerous times to have rattles fixed, most of which never were or came back again - worse.

2. Several other faults over the 22 months I had it. In the garage 10 times for about 25 days in total.

3. Totally intolerable bump/bang from the rear of the car which they could never fix. Tried numerous fixes to the tailgate and replaced components in the rear suspension.

4. Ride quality was poor in comparison with the R56.
