Offline | BMW acknowledge rattle is number 1 new mini problem I've posted before about the persistent dashboard rattles that I have had, but I thought for this that I'd start a new thread. My MK2 57 plate mini cooper has been into the dealer 7 or 8 times now for dash rattles. The worst one they have fixed but they caused another one in the process. My car was due to be taken in again today but I got a call. The dealer had said that they had to cancel the check as they had a letter from high up at BMW. He advised me that an area manager for the repairs would need to come in as the highest complaint of any new BMW mini owner is dashboard rattles and that they are now taking the seriously. Has anyone else been advised of this? I am in the east of Scotland area. I urge you, that if you have a rattle then take your car in as this is now the biggest problem with the MK2 BMW. I was even advised that they may issue a recall although I think that to be a bit extreme and highly improbable. Ferengo |

Offline | Hi KenL, I got it from Grassicks in Perth. You can take your mini to any dealer so if you have them same problem then give them a call and take it in. Mine won't be going in for around 4 weeks but I will update this. I also have the cold rattle problem and was told it was a heater starting up that warms up your engine. I take it this is not true? Can anyone maybe give me some advice on this and what I should do? Ferengo. |

Offline | Yeah it's true. They are investigating dashboard rattles on cars from August 07, but they should only be sending an engineer to inspect cars that haven't already had work carried out on them to resolve the issues. You've done well if they're booking one to see your car if it's been in 8 times already. Last edited by joyrider81 : Mar 3rd, 2008 at 05:21 PM. Reason: Spelling mistake |

Offline | Has anyone wondered if the rattle is only on RHD models as all the threads i've read so far are from UK owners. It may well be to do with the manufacturing process of the RHD dash. Comments anyone? I am still awaiting my Clubman and it'll be LHD. Last edited by westendboy : Mar 4th, 2008 at 06:09 PM. Reason: spelling |

Offline | For those of you who have a rattle in the center of your dash. Mine was fixed (on the third time) by replacing the dashboard trim. Sounded like a load of crap when I was told they were going to do this, but it did the trick. I to think my rattle is either on the left side or around the glovebox area. I have been told by the engineer that it only happens when it goes over slightly rougher ground and that it's the Chassis flexing and normal. They have obviously got the letter from high up since then because they are treating it with concern now, but does this sound an acceptable excuse to anyone? Mine was made in July 07 not one of the August 07 ones but close enough I guess. I also have an intermittent creek on my drivers seatbelt. Sounds like the spring that pulls the belt back. As for the creek in the engine when it's cold, It worries me sometimes and other times not. I know this happens on the Cooper S but has any Cooper owner had this? I'm thinking on writing to BMW to let them know of the problem. Does anyone know the e-mail or postal address? Lastly, I'm worried that I might be complaining to BMW about a lot of things. Am I justified in pursuing these things further? Thanks for the help, Ferengo |
