Ah, but you know I didn't say that.

What I did say was, "in many cases I have been wrong" ...... add another one to the list huh?.

Ive just been out to my car, unlocked it, started engine to listen for a different noise, switched it off and the high pitched noise is there again I think this car just likes making random noises

I've noticed the noise on my Cooper D both when unlocking the car and stoping after a drive. Fortunately a relative of mine is a technician (not called mechanics any more) at a Mini dealer so I got (I'm sure) a non-bull explanation. I'm advised it's the fuel pump priming or de-driming the fuel line. It does it when you unlock the car (priming and does it again when you come to a stop (de-priming). All working as designed and perfectly normal. Not sure if this applies to Cooper D only or all models.

I'm sure there'll be a Q of know-it-alls ready to de-bunk but I'm happy with the explanation I got from a Mini technician.
