Smelly Clutch

Hi has anyone ever pulled off from a steep hill giving it a sufficient amount (the right amount) of revs to move off then have there clutch smell as if they've been burningout or something?

Its worrying and now wondering how much of my clutch has been burned up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Joe

Not got a MINI yet - sounds like you need to get it checked though; sure there's no dead animals on the outside your car?

Have a great day

My clutch has smelled pretty bad on a couple of occasions. The last time i slipped the clutch with a handful of revs to reverse up a kerb.....................burning smell was pretty obvious.

I never had the smell of a burning clutch over 60,000 miles on my R50 MINI. However on two occasions with my R56, with just 2k rpm, overcoming a kerb or a big bump (just getting out of a car parking space) I have had the smell which really surprised me.

I've got a smelly clutch on very light use, but car is brand new so am assuming this is part of run-in.

Burning electrics - acrid smell - hard to describe!

I reckon there was a faulty batch fitted the beginning of this year as a loan clubman i had suffered the same and the service managed said " we need to sort that one out too"!

Mine did it first time I went up our steep drive in reverse as did the r56 laon car I had last oct. I mentioned the loan car to the garage and they said it was nothing to worry about, it was normal when under strain .
My clubman also did it yesterday on steep hillstart out of parking place . Now starting to worry that i don't know how to drive properly anymore !

Im afraid you garage is talking b*ll*cks . It probably has a warped clutch plate like mine had

You want to request a new clutch and then it wont smell even under strain

when i had the loan car with the smell, i was having the squeaky clutch on my r53 replaced !!. I don't ride the clutch when driving, but do have to do this very steep hill start once or twice a week, and I obviously have to hold the clutch at biting point to do this, which results in the smell.

Could it be coincidence that i;ve had 3 cars in a row with clutch problems, or am I driving badly ?

starting on a steep hill isnt going to do it any good, i have to start on a very steep hill every morning and im sure it had something to do with why my clutch broke on my last mini...my solution was to buy an automatic lol
