Offline | Deformed Bonnet Scoop (melted?) Hi all My bonnet scoop seems to be going a bit out of shape where the top edge line up with the bonnet cutout... Noticed it after 10000km but seemed to have gotten worse now at 18000km. The car is 1 year old (Feb07 production) BMW have agreed to replace it but don't seem like they are investigating the cause so it's probably going to happen again... Anyone else have this happen? I have looked at other R56 S's and have noticed a slight dip in the middle, similar to mine, on a few cars but nothing as bad as mine(next to the dip its actually raised up). My neighbor thats parked next to me in our shared garage (I live in a unit) just got an S as well so I have been checking his from time to time. I don't drive it particularly hard and usually drive it gently for a couple of kms before I switch off ignition, but I would say 60% of my day to day driving is bumper to bumper traffic for 30min at a time. For the record my scoop does not have any perforations in the honeycomb bit and has a small patch of insulating material underneath the scoop. I'll keep everyone informed once the new scoop come in and if it starts to go mozzarella on me as well... dan ![]() |

Offline | Common problem with that very hot turbo right beneath the scoop there. Just hold you hand on the bonnet above the turbo after parking the car for 5 minutes, especialy after a spirited drive. I wonder what it does to the paint quality of the bonnet in 5 years as this is more dificult to replace than just the scoop. EB/W MCS Highly Modified |

Offline | Got a call from BMW today and they advised that they have a new part number for a vent with holes in it to offer more circulation when the car has stopped. BMX have ordered this new black vent, and a new scoop as mine has started to warp. All under warranty. All i'm gonna do is put some heat relecting material on the underside of the boot once the work has been completed. |

Offline | Hey guys - I have a December 2007 build and the scoop has holes in it. While it may be helping somewhat, there is still an insane amount of heat on the bonnet when it's parked in the garage. My hood scoop is also becoming deformed due to it. Anyone have a better fix then having the SA order a new scoop? I saw some folks removed the mesh completely. Did it help? |

Offline | I think a deflector fitted behind the scoop mesh to collect and direct turbo heat out through the scoop opening (when stationary) will do the trick. Such a deflector is fitted to the Challenge car scoops http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachmen...5&d=1190110524 (courtesy DerekH). I've been trying to encourage the aftermarket crew to make one! Offline | I can sort of see what's going on with the under bonnet shot on that link. I was looking to do something heat reflective myself. But at the end of the day i still got the best part of 3 years left on the warranty, so if it goes again then BMW can sort it! |

Offline | UPDATE: Just got the scoop replaced by the dealer. The grill is still the non-perforated type... not sure if they have reused that bit of the scoop from my old one. Paint has been matched well and everything lines up with the very slightest amount of droop along the top edge but not noticeable unless you are less than a foot away from it. Will see how this new one will go. ![]() |

Online | Can you get the part number as my dealers computer says the factory is only supplying the grille without holes & that this can be fitted to Minis with grilles that have holes! |
