Offline | Gearbox Trouble Hi Chaps, Am new to this forum, so firstly i say hi and that. Anyway, my girlfireinds sister has a BMW mini cooper and the gearbox has gone bang. We can pick up a recon unit for 500 quid and was wondering if any one on here has fitted one before or knows if it is a hard job to do. If so, is there any garages that you would recomend that could supply and fit a recon box quite cheaply? Many thanks for any help! |

Offline | gearboxes are not a fun item to fit..... but you can fit one if you are mechanicly minded. If you buy the reconditioned unit in full you should get a a bentley or haynes maunal and do it yourself(you will need help lifting it out of the car and putting the other one in.) It will take at least a day for a novice and you will need a good few tools, if you have access to a car ramp it will make life much easier. It can cost anything from £250 to £400 to get one fitted depending on the garage and the car. I would say the mini is a pain to fit as the engine looks like its very compact and hard to work on. Best of look with it and i hope you get it back to full health cheaply. ![]() |
