| MINI2 Senior | TV Function Anyone thinking of putting in the TV function in the new R56 Mini for a whopping £710??? I have added it to my spec 4 now just wondering if anyone thinks its value for money or not? It says enables reception for analogue and digital tv with video text whatever that means and stores upto 30 stations. What you think??? |

![]() Run out of ideas... | £710.00 for a 5" screen TV? Sounds great value to me! ![]() What possible reason could you have for wanting to sit in a parked car watching television (as it is illegal to watch it at any other time)? Is life really that devoid of entertainment now that we cannot live without TV? This is just yet another example of electronics manufacturers creating something because they can, rather than because there is a genuine need for it. I wonder what they will think of next to part us from our money? |

Offline | I cant see the point of it either myself. The only thing I could think TV would be good for would be for kids in the back on very long journeys, and the built in unit doesn't support that situation. Those that are (planning on) ordering it, when and where would you intend to use it? |

I'm stuck lol |

Offline | My father has a tv in his X3. The picture quality is poor mostly and yes it cuts off when the car goes above a few mph. Total waste of time, and a total waste of £710. |

Offline | I genuinely would like to know what situations people considering buying this option would intend to watch TV in the front of the car though, as it's something I've never even considered. |

Offline | Its not something I am going to have on my MINI, but I do get why people would want it. For example I use my parents car quite a bit and in situations where you are waiting around for people (picking up from airport etc) I use the DVD part of the sat nav all the time, so TV would be a great addition to that to help pass the time. Another example could be sat in a traffic jam on the motorway, I managed to watch 75% of Pirates of the Caribbean before the traffic started moving ![]() |

Offline | I'll consider it. Sat on the A3 for 1 hour stationary last mon, not for the first or last time either. Also, can you watch DVD's in it? The system in my parents E class has it. |

| Kernow Mini Man | Yea go for it, you would be a right PIMP its good when you have to wait for things like waiting in car parks for football matches to start and other things such as getting good parking spaces. i recently went to the national fireworks display in Plymouth in my mini, got there about 5pm when it started at 9pm becuase they expected 60,000 people so needed to get a space. I wish i had it |

Offline | I think the other thing for me (and everyone elso on this site!) is that a Mini means so much more to us than a means of getting from A to B, so if we can have a funky option like the TV, why not? I do think it's expensive (along with the nav), but I will certainly be considering it on either the hatch or the new estate, depending which one I go for. |

| MINIMAT | I wonder about this craze for video ipods etc. You can’t walk or drive and watch and recording systems have never been so good to record programmes while you were out. On top of that a lot of people have big home cinema systems at home so why watch on a tiny screen? If I’m away working it’s useful but I have a pocket telly and a laptop with a plug in USB TV tuner. A little more useful as you can take them indoors. Not only that I find it nice to get away from the telly. I have a DAB radio with around 30 radio stations on it and an MP3 player with thousands of songs on it. I think it’s all technology for the sake of it. |

![]() Run out of ideas... | The TV Function (£710.00) is only available in conjunction with the Navigation System (up to £1,500.00) and Automatic Air Conditioning (up to £890.00) and enables reception of analogue and digital TV (DVB-T) with video text and will receive up to 30 channels. Depending on what other options are specified (PEPPER pack, CHILI pack etc) we all of a sudden have a tiny TV costing up to £3,100.00 that can only be watched with the handbrake applied. Bargain! |
