United-Kingdom Mock-Up Centre Console R56 Mini

Hi all,

Due to my disatisfaction of the bland looking centre console and the graphic designer in me I have had a play in photoshop and offer for your viewing pleasure 2 concepts that BMW I think should implement. One is to match the silver/alluminuim and the other is Rooster red. These could be done to match any colour combination.

ALSO notice the Volvo C30 influenced graphic elements between the heating controls. These could make sense a company offering these as an aftermarket option to us.

Love to know what you all think!

Will be ordering a R56 soon,
Paul

(Paul, can supply these higher res if needed)

Depending on how easy these would be to make and snap on/off they could sell really well.

Here is a close up of the graphic detail. Loads of different style could be offered including lots of mini logo's.

Maybe they're all busy speaking to suppliers about bringing this to market.

The plastic is not a smooth finish, so decals would be difficult, but if you could have sticky back plastic shapes to make the pattern, or replace the entire panel (this is the centre backing) then that could be a very good idea indeed. I cant see stickers working due to the slightly rough/matt finish.

Great Idea- If the side sections could be used as a snap on/easy fit 'PROTECTOR' even better.

I was thinking it would be good for BMW to offer these as options! The panel behind the controls could be smooth and have a selection of say ten designs to spec at ordering stage on either black or aluminium.

Come on BMW give us what would be even more cusomisation.

Not easy to snap in/out from what i remember, depending what radio you have.

The heater controls are also fitted to this.

Very interesting ...

I don't find the black verticals so offensive - For me, it's the high contrast between the silver switchgear and the flat black panel that could possibly be improved.

Should be easy enough to re-trim. What do you think?

I've been wondering if we are just so used to seeing downtubes in our MINIs that we are still holding on to that concept a bit too much. The classic Mini had no downtubes, and no console. It seems that with R56 the dash is now the main focus of the interior in a way it was not before. If the console recedes to the background visually (downtubes are now gone) it's not a problem.

Now as far as graphic treatments, sure...why not? I'm just not sure the downtube concept needs visual reinforcement any more.

I do like the color in there!!!

Good ideas. I like the idea of matching the colorline color. Could either of you do one all red, the center section and the sides?

I think the black is meant to give that 'floating' centre console look isn't it?
Must say I like the new improved look better..

Very nice, the graphics certainly give it more stylish look rather than the flat sheet with some controls sticking out of it - I do think this bit of the R56 console looks very 'unfinished' as it stands...

Just to reiterate what Nick said, this centre piece is not that easy to remove. And used to need the centre console removing to prevent damage to it.

It may have changed since I last saw it though (5+ Months ago) Entirely possible though!
