Offline | Has been mentioned elsewhere but the i-pod link is a dealer fit, in glovebox, needs a 5th gen i-pod (according to spec - other say different) will cost you about £195 inc VAT fitted - tracks can be selected from five playlists and ALL tracks from your i-pod (from multifunction steering wheel or head unit.) Benefit hidden away easy to use. Bit costly but what isn't? ![]() Hope this helps. Last edited by Chris.F : Nov 24th, 2006 at 08:58 AM. |

Offline | Thanks for the replies I'll be getting multifunction steering wheel so I presume the aux point mentioned wont allow the iPod to work through the steering wheel controls, am I right in this??!! The dealer fit is very costly !!!!![]() |

Offline | The mini accessories page on newmini2006.co.uk includes the following description of the official iPOD adaptor: 'Artist, genre and track title are shown on the radio display or on-board monitor' To my knowledge the current iPOD adaptor does not display artist/track info etc. My plan was to go for an aftermarket product to get this type of functionality, but if I can get this from the official product, I'll get my Mini dealer to fit the official adaptor. Does anyone know if this is the same adaptor that is used for the current Mini? Is it simply that the original adaptor used with the new stereo will pick up with info to display, or is a new adaptor (& new part code) required? |

Offline | My understanding is that there is an all new radio being installed in the R56 Speaking to the guys at newmini2006 and they tell me that they think the head unit is going to be one from the 3 series beemer. This means that the kits you currently see for sale at £90ish on newmini2006 are almost certainly not going to work on the new stereo in the R56. I would get a price from your dealer for fitting their kit and if it's under £200 go for that. |

| I am not a number!! | I asked this question the other week when we ordered my GF's R56 MCS I was told the following: The R56 has an aux port on all radios, these will only allow audio to come from the iPod, no charging or control of the iPod. The dealer can fit an iPod link, which is the same parts as they current fit in the current MINI. So you can assume, that if the current offical MINI link hooks into the stereo the same way as the Denision that you will also be able to just use the current Ice Link. I hope to see an R56 soon to be able to confirm all of this, or if I can't I am sure that another R56 owner will be doing so. Until then I have not selected the offical MINI link, as it can always be added later on if the above is not true. Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | I think the Ipod interface for the new Mini must be different from the old one. In the new price list the new ipod interface is £195.00 whereas the one for the original Mini is £125.00. They also have different part numbers. Not sure about fitting charges. |

Offline | No it doesn't! I'm paying £180 fitted (IF YET AGAIN IT IS AVAILABLE BEFORE THE END OF JANUARY...as per storage pack) and as others posting £195 as per brochure and as for a fifty pound saving ....someone is having a laugh. at your expense. |

| I am not a number!! | I'll be just buying the parts, and getting www.newminstuff.com to fit it, as I trust Mike more than anyone to take apart a MINI ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

| I am not a number!! | All privilege members of MINI2 get discount from Mike already, so no I won't be after anything extra. Just I know he is the best man in the country, so everyone should be made aware that their beloved MINI is in the safest of hands if they go to him ![]() Distance is not an issue, I travel at the moment over an hour to his, but there have been customers come over from Ireland to have him work on their cars, people drive from London and further. Its all about how much you love your MINI and want the best advice and work done ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | Wasn't having a go at you.....Sorry I disagree. Distance just to have an i-pod link fitted is an issue for me. IF you are having a few jobs done like the bluetooth at the same time I don't dispute he's the man for the job and makes economic sense. Obviously a very talented person. It's all about how much you love your Mini and want the best advice and work done??? No it isn't its simply an i-pod link that will be factory fitted so my car won't be touched after delivery by anyone. UNLESS I find something of interest later to add. |

Offline | This is my first post although I'm a long time Mini lover, anyways I visited my local dealer on Saturday and knocked up a quote for an MCS including the ipod dock, as this was a dealer fit they quoted £343 inc VAT, now this clearly can't be right! Is everyone else getting quoted prices similar to the book price of £195? |

Offline | I would guess that the sales guy added MFSW with the ipod install - to get the full experience!! I think this ipod stuff is way overpriced and hyped - given that it: 1. Controls a single device and one version of that device. 2. Doesnt provide full IPOD control (playlists limited control) What will you do when Ipod 6G arrives, spend more cash? Wake up people... this is a bigger rip off than the clear len indicators. |

Offline | esxollie, you have a point to a degree. However, if you already have a fifth gen iPod and listen to a lot of music, you're still better off being able to change track through the wheel than by having to fumble around in the dark to use the iPod itself. I've been told that the iPod interface is new for the R56 and offers more functionality than the current one. How accurate that info is, I don't know. You can navigate around albums on an MP3 CD-R in the R56, so maybe there'll be similar options using the iPod. |
