I opted for the standard CD player on my current MCS as they told me it played MP3s. They didn't tell me that it wouldn't show the ID3 tags. It's very annoying.

So will the new CD player in the 2nd Gen Mini play MP3s,AND show the song title and artist etc?

And with the iPOD link, will it only work with an iPOD, or will it be possible to connect to a different mp3 player, and have the ID3 tags showing on the display?

Can't answer your question for certain, but some of the CD players in the newer BMW's (the Professional version in the 1 Series for example) show ID tags, so I would say there's a pretty good chance.

Unless the MP3 player uses the proprietary dock connector on the iPod, which is how it communicates not only the sound, but also the data tags for each track, it would not be able to use the iPod connector.

THe aux connector would of course allow music to play but no data either.
