Don't think the aux input is on the front of the headset? [IT ISN'T IS IT its under the centre controls ...thanks to m1m0 and Hat]

The i-pod link goes in the back of the radio and into the glovebox. (But I speculate!)

No harm in speculating

I knew I'd seen a pic of it somewhere, and I've managed to track it down to a recent post by Hat. Here's his pic (hope he doesn't mind me reusing it):

The aux input can be seen under the centre stack toggles.

It still doesn't really help us determine whether the 12v socket will work or not, but it seems the aux port is ideally situated in terms of playing from an ipod whilst charging it at the same time...

Well spotted! BUT does this allow for the same functions as the I-pod link? (sorry if this is a daft question or posted elsewhere....AT least you find out on Mini2)

BUT IT DEFO works with the smokers pack on the Spec.....I hope!

I raised the question re: 12V power with my dealer, as I have not speccd the Smokers Pack. He says that there will be 12V power to the front, just no cigar lighter.

That's a bit of a sweeping generalisation Simon!

I would be more than happy to put your obviously extensive knowledge of the MINI to test against mine!

Ok, the challenge has been set. Here's the first question for both of you:

If I don't spec the smoker pack on my R56 MINI, will I still get a working 12v socket in place of the cigarette lighter?

All MINI's come with a 12v socket between the front cupholders as standard.

If the Smokers Pack is specified a lighter insert and ashtray are included.

(But hey, I'm just one of those unhelpful and unknowledgeable dealers that Mr Syddall mentioned, so what do I know?)

Not being awkward Scrogg.....BUT is this socket live? No one doubts its exists but I'm being told its blanked off without the smokers pack? (Like the mystery button present but inactive?) Sounds daft if true because the option should be "Lighter & Ashtray" IF 12v is present on all cars, which it should be.

According to the new brochure which I received yesterday, 15 inch wheels are not run flat. So a tyre inflator would be required. Which of course would be of no use if there is no 12v socket!

Very true.

MINI Mobility System has always included a 12v socket in the boot, so there is no reason to believe things will be any different this time around.

We've just got to wait until someone sees a new model with 15" wheels fitted!

This is quite funny in the real World. Why does the storage pack add a 12v socket in the boot then if one is in there to start with? Or has my dealer got it wrong again?

My dealer has received his first two MCSs ( which are hidden away ) but I asked him if either of them did NOT have the Smoker Pack so that he could take a look and answer this question definitively. Unfortunately both have the Smoker Pack.

Do you have any cars without the Smoker Pack yet, Scrogg?

Wish I had a brochure! (£17,000+ and still not got one)

.....said ALL on run flats or does he expect everyone to upgrade from standard?

Being the first to admit that I don't know everything ( !) about MINI I would be guessing that, as the 12v socket was deleted when 16" or bigger alloys were specified, it was easier to add this as part of the Storage Compartment Pack so that you will get it regardless of what size wheels are specified.

Maybe this time around having the MINI Mobility System does not have the socket?

In the boot, obviously!

The point I was making was, perhaps this time around, the extra socket in the boot is not part of the MINI Mobility System, and that the one in the front is used to power the compressor?

If you're going to start taking the mickey I won't tell you what the MINI Product Enquiries team have just told me about this!!
