Offline | Key "Memory" Reading through the MotoringFile article on the R56 I came across this snippet: " MINI key with memory function and On/Off starter button ". What settings would be retained in this memory? |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Well the face lift MINI's can have their keys read at the dealers to pick up all your details but I think this is more a code and they then drag your details off a server somewhere. I also remember reading that MINI were considering being able to load mp3 files to the key that you could then transfer to your HU or play from the key whilst in the ignition. Never heard any mention of it since though and I would of thought it would of come out by now. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Besides the radio settings previously mentioned, which does seem odd, I read somewhere that the key also maintains the settings for the automatic air con. Maybe that does make sense if more than one person is driving the car with a separate smart key. If I listen to a certain radio station and keep it at a specific temperature but you like it colder or warmer, maybe it's able to keep both of our preferences separate. |

![]() Extra 3 Inches | Remembering the A/C settings (which will obviously only work with Auto) is a slightly more useful idea (but not much) but why have 18 FM, 6 MW and 6 LW presets on the Head Unit if you then duplicate all that information in a key? I just find it hard to believe that MINI would go to all the trouble of designing a feature like this, and then not mention it anywhere? (But, hey, I've been wrong before!) (A few times!!) |

Offline | I agree it does seem incredibly pointless, but the info is from the official launch details article on MotoringFile - MotoringFile » Archive » The New MINI (Official UK Launch Details) |

![]() MINI2 Regular | The reasons BMW have keys with memory are to do with preferences. Preferences for Seat Positioning (If you have memory seats), whether the trip computer is kph or mph, mpg or l/100km, etc. So if you and your SO drive the same car, it makes the transition simple. |

| Wants an Audi | The point is that the memory settings will change depending who's keys in. So if i get in my memory stations might me all smooth and classic (key1) and then when key 2 is in the memory could be all dance stations. Saves having to re tune the radio. Also could remember tone settings like bass etc. |
