Speedo Illumination?

Is the intensity of the speedo readout automatically adjusted for brightness? I haven't found anything in handbook but could of missed it. I do have auto dimming mirror??? Auto lights??? could it be linked to these?

But the Fuel Gauge intensity appears to change brightness in differing lighting conditions quite dramatically, (Lights off on stalk) Could it be deliberate OR is it a loose wire (Mikey?)

Hope its not one of the mystery i-pod bugs? If there is an obvious answer I'm not to proud to here a simple explanation.

Thanks.

Sounds a bit odd!
The control for the bightness of the dash lights is the left black 'stalk' on the revcounter, just hold it in to dim I think and then just press once at a time then to brighten to what you want.
Fergal.

On my car (2002) the illumination is adjusted by the button to the left of the speedo (the opposite side to the hazard button) Hold it in to make the display brighter and press it repeatedly to dim it.

Thanks for the replies but

It adjusts itself randomly whitout being touched.

Still suspect a loose wire but worse when i-pod linked up. A bug perhaps?

The following applies to my first generation 2003 MC, but I'll bet it's the same on the 2007's.

There's a light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the led's in the dash components
depending on ambient lighting. It's near the bottom of the speedo.
Try this:
Shade it with your hand and the displays get dimmer. Shine a light at it and they get brighter.
