Offline | Mikey, You have posted pics of almost all the speakers. If I've read your post correctly, there are two more tweeters in the back somewhere. Could you post a pic of these or explain exactly where they are at. Thanks in advance DyeLooper ![]() DyeLooper |

Offline | Mikey, Have you/are you in the process of making new wiring harnesses with take-off leads for the R56 "head unit" (which probably means some huge jumble of wires that connects to the back of the do-everything Speedo)? Any pictures of what the rear-side of the Speedo/head unit looks like (assuming you had to take that out for your system upgrades)? Are the internal amp & electronics of the standard stock head unit located in the in-dash CD component or integrated into the Speedo component? Thanks! |

Offline | Will see what other pics I have - on the boost unit the amp is built into the stereo (behind the cd slot) One of the problems is space. You can splice in or I can supply a take off lead. If the car has nav it is a very tight squeeze behind the stereo |

Offline | So Mikey.....Standard is $h1te ....and HiFi is $h1te .......and an upgrade is required.........??? are we better to save money initially and just upgrade the standard??? Should MINI not be concerned and be busying themselves working on a solution? ![]() |

Offline | Bit harsh, I suppose its down to personal opinion & also what you listen to. Personaly I was dissapointed withthe hi-fi upgrade compared to the old HK system. I would say if you are ordering an R56 then have a listen to the hi-fi upgrade with your own CD to see if it suits you. |

Offline | just got my mini with the hifi upgrade and there is a serious lack of bass and also distortion at higher volume. Not impressed. Thinking of getting an under seat sub to improve things without too much money or space being used |

Offline | Mikey, How hard would it be to add just an amp and sub to the system? Any wire cutting? In another thread someone mentioned the stereo had a sub output.. Do you know anything about this? |

Offline | R56 Stereo Problems Hi I think the stereo in the R56 is a poor relation to the old car, i contacted MINI and this was there reply, i know they would love to hear your comments. Thank you for you email. BMW Group UK I wish to acknowledge the comments that you have made and I can confirm that I have reviewed the website information supplied. Contrary to this, we as MINI UK do not recognise this as a common customer concern and must emphasise that the (R56) MINI shares only the bulk head design and floor pan from the previous model (R53). All other components are different and therefore it must be noted that performances of the two vehicles will differ. Unfortunately we cannot offer you the solution you are looking for as we do not deem the speaker system in your R56 inadequate or lacking in performance. However, should a retro fit (cost) option to upgrade the speaker system become available, I am confident that your dealership will be in contact with you. In closing, I trust that you appreciate our position in this matter and I regret any disappointment caused. Offline | Hi all, just new to the forums, going to be ordering my cooper within the next few weeks, cant wait !Anyway mickey, great work on the upgrade, just a couple of questions. Can the amp that amp that comes with the HiFi upgrade just be straight swapped with an aftermarket amp? For example does the factory amp already have power, ground and remote wires installed that can be straight swapped to an aftermarket amp? And what size speakers are required to fit in the original HiFi Speakers pods? Thanks for the help, Fraser. |

Offline | Mikey, Are you sure the woofers are 2-ohm? That would require an enormous amount of power from a very stable amplifier. It certainly would be a highly unusual choice. So you have any pictures of the stock woofers? Can these woofers be replaced without removing the door panels? Are they accessible from the front? One last question ...I am in the US ...is there any chance the UK hi-fi uses different speakers than the US cars? Many thanks. Thanks. Last edited by reelsmith. : Mar 10th, 2007 at 05:04 PM. |
