1. Your pics you just posted, are those 16.5cm/6.5" in the bottom of the door?
2. The amp that's in the boot, is this the only amp? If not, where is the other one?
3. If there are two, which amp controls what?
4. Do all the speakers have crossovers in them? Could we eliminate the crossovers if we wanted to.
5. Are you splicing the wires to connect to the new speakers you are installing or have you noticed if the connectors going to the speakers happens to be something Mini/BMW has been using for a few years now?

Hope you have a few minutes to get back to me, would appreciate it.

1. Yes
2. On that one there is also one in the cubby
3. Amp on show was for the 4 speakers, cubby for the sub
4. Which - Boost, hi fi or my upgrade
5 We use a plug & play loom so we dont cut the factory wires

Mike,
My fault. I'm referring to the stock unit on my MCS. I have the Hi-Fi upgrade.

Mini factory install Amp in the boot area, this is the only one for the whole Hi-Fi unit? or is there another amp somewhere?
Were there any crossovers in the Mini factory installation ?
Whats a plug and play loom?

Thanks

Mikey i used to be an auto electrian years ago and these Mine speakers look very low grade cost cutting comes to mind and also they want to keep all upgrades in house but not fitting normal din fit . I can't wait to get our new MCS but am ready for dissapointment with the stero as my E90 BMW 330D sport stereo is not that bad for standard. Away back in the late 80's i did some nice fits always need good speakers to start with though nice job

Do you sell this loom on your site? I couldn't find it. Is it the reason you had to remove the dash.

Derek says above that the MINI speakers are "low grade", with the hifi upgrade are all the speakers in house examples? Same with the amp, is it made by a know manufacturer? Anyone have pics of the standard hifi amp?

I was afraid of that. I couldn't think of any other reason for you to rip apart the dash. I was hoping you'd have a adapter that you used back by the amp in the hifi system.

If I recall correctly, Mikey was stripping out a HiFi upgraded R56 and said the amp / speaker are made by HK for BMW - just not badged.

Interesting! Why not brand the new setup since the previous models setup was know to be HK Strange folk who work at BMW

Call me names if you like but I am reluctant to post an online guide for 2 reasons;
1. I can see people getting into real trouble with the stereo/speedo as there is a very flimsy ribbon cable & I will end up getting the blame for people coming unstuck by not understanding my guide (this has even happened on the R53! & that was easy
2. Protecting my info for now, I spent a lot of time researching this car, even fitting some equipment for free to gain knowledge. On the R53 I posted everything online then certain other companies came along & copied exactly what I was doing without having to invest in any research. I am getting calls daily from shops that are getting stuck on the R56

I think you are totally right to not show how its done, as having watched you take an R56 apart twice now there is no way I'd want to do this myself at home, even though I have seen how its done, I'd happily take apart an R53 myself, but the R56 is far too complicated and tricky with too much to go wrong.

I'd not be happy as a business either to be giving away this expert knowledge to the competition either, so that to me makes perfect sense too.

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?
