Where have you purchased your cable to connect the iPod to the car as I can't seem to find one anywhere!

Apologies if this has been posted before......

Are you talking about the iPod Interface, or just a cable to plug into the Aux-In socket?

You can definitely get it off amazon, or even eBay.

You should be able to find a simple 3.5mm male to male stereo connector at a Radio Shack (Tandy). For a bit better sound I recommend ZipLinq which connects off the bottom (digital) connector on your iPod and has a 3.5mm stereo connector on the other end. The particular cable you would want is the ZIP-AUDIO-IP1. It available thru cables4computer.com, pcmall, com, or try their website for other links at ziplinq.com

Just ordered it on ebay for £1.88 incl postage....alot cheaper than I thought....It will do while I am awaiting details regarding the mini offical connector that also charges and can flick tracks using MFSW....Is it just the dealer I'm using here in cork or have others had delays and excuses regarding the connection price/ delivery

No probs with mine Vinnie - i got it fitted before I picked up my car 3 weeks ago in Kells, I cant remember the exact price because I got the auxilary lights as well, but I'm guessing it is about €400 odd for the iPod connection. But I read in some other threads that there was some sort of change made to the software for the iPod connection depending on build week - mine was build week 49 if that helps......

Dad got one from Currys. 3.5m, and about £10. I would have thought Mini would have thrown it in, seeing as though their selling lots of them, and maybe a discount for buying bulk from the manufacturer

A dream can only become a reality if you chase it...

The official mini adaptor has been available for some time. It's a little more expensive than your ebay cable though! About £321 more expensive, in my case.

Still, the sound through the Aux in is not very good and i'm sure a £1.88 cable is not going to make it any better either. There is a 3.5mm to ipod dock connector available which gives better sound, but you still have to control it from the ipod. It doesn't charge either.

If you want the quality and functionality, you have to pay the money i'm afraid.

I've bought one from Currys until MINI release the iPod interface which works with my car. Seems OK, the quality isn't that good though to be honest.

Using a dock connection to 3.5mm connection should provide the same quality as the mini interface cable. Just think of the mini solution as an overpriced control/charging system.

Why afford it when you can do without?? I brought this
Amazon.co.uk: Ziplinq Stereo 3.5mm Digital Audio Cable for iPod: Electronics & Photo
and the sound quality is great! The only downside is that you have to control it via the iPod but would I pay 100s of pounds to do this via the steering wheel? No, especially as I only have it on shuffle anyway!!

It's amazing ... Even when you point out your only joking, you still get some takers.

It's each to their own. The ipod is inconvenient to use when driving, and you have to have another lead to charge it. But more importantly the sound quality is simply not as good - I tried the ziplinq cable to see if it compared and it doesn't.

But as I said, each to their own - If you can't afford it then the Ziplinq is the best of the other options.

I sure hope the MINI iPod system is better than the Aux cable becuase its noticeably worse quality to CD's which I never found was a problem with the Alpine iPod solution in my previous Cooper.

I used the Ziplinq cable through my computer and the sound quality was the same as playing the tracks from the computer.. I have an 80gb ipod so the batter life is fine, I'm never going to be in the car for more than 6 hours at a time anyway, so can charge it when I get home.

Its not that I cant afford the Mini Ipod link, I just refuse to line their pockets for something that is so easy to fit. As I say, I only ever have my Ipod on random, so I wont need to touch it once its playing. The volume isn't controlled by the Ipod with the ziplinq cable as its a clean sound.

just had the ipod cable fitted , yesterday, its a lot better than the cable !!!! and you have a lot more control over the albums, songs, genres, etc throught the head unit, also it shows songs and titles on the head unit, i had it fitted at the mini dealer in blackpool, i thought they where very nice m coffee was good !, but it should of inly tool an hour max to fit, but ended up taking 5 hours to fit, as they needed to reload all the cars software again, which i have asked them did they need to do before i got there, as i only had an hour spare in my day ( up there on work) they ended up giving me an 56 r53 copper s for 3 hours, great i thought . as i had never driven one , Now i do drive hard and fast, but i averaged 18 mpg and cost me £20 in fuel, glad i have my r56 mcs back, im just thinking of all the fuel im saving driving me new car , and wondering what else i can spend the money on , i wonder if you can fit 2 ipods ?
