Help! Does backlight go off on auto's P

Sorry if i'm being thick but...

Just taken charge of my new MC (auto) and i have parked up and locked up but the backlight on the gearstick has stayed on-it's glowing red P for park-is that normal?

All lights etc are off and the alarm has done it's heartbeat thing and is flicking on and off every couple of seconds as it should.

Seems strange that the P is still lit up.

Any help would be greatfully received.

Mine goes off after about 20 mins of being locked up.

lol-no, it's definitely not just you who worries about these things. have a check next time you park up, it seems to go off after 20/30 mins. strange that it stays on that long really.

Sounds like they are using the same system as the 5 series & x5
The park light stays on until the car goes to sleep. If it stays on longer than 30 mins then the car hasn't gone to sleep & something is wrong - If accesories are wired up wrongly then this can cause the car not to go to sleep
