Offline | R56 Hi - Fi Firstly, before I get in to this thread I'd better nail my colours to the mast. I'm a big music and hi-fi fan but have never been a huge fan of in car hi-fi. A car is such an alien landscape for good sound quality and I've heard systems costing thousands that haven't really excited me compared to a good domestic system. I really can't buy in to this get as much bass as you can, use tons of compression etc at the expense of everything else argument. Nevertheless I do listen to music on the move so obviously want to get as much enjoyment as I can. Now had my R56 3 weeks and had read a lot about the standard fit stereo. Must admit that at first I was disappointed and was wishing I'd read people's concerns on here earlier ! The sound was def not as good as on the last model. However, whilst I still think it is not as good I am pleased that it seems to have run in quite nicely and there has been a considerable improvement in sound. The harshness has gone and whilst it is still a little "thin" there is now a much fuller sound. CD's have improved although they still sound a little hard compared to MP3 which would suggest that the problem is more with the CD player than the speakers So, don't completely despair ! ! The standard sound system is no great shakes I admit but does improve ! ! |

![]() MINI2 Master | Sounds like the speakers just need running-in. As you said, not as good as the previous systems, but most hi-fi speakers manufacturers recommend running-in drivers for 24 hours before critical listening. As the mechanics of speaker drivers are reasonably similar, I guess this would apply to car stereo systems too. |

Offline | KenL - I've got the standard CD player. Wrongly assumed when I purchased that it would be of a similar standard to the last one. Had I realised I may have been tempted to change my BRG paint for PW and use the cash for the Hi Fi upgrade. Actually I probably wouldn't and would have just spent more ![]() |
