No, but when it came back from a software update the daytime running lights were ticked to "ON" ??? It's fine now though.

Auto lights-on now fixed. Turned out to be a faulty pin connector. I think it was quite hard to find the problem!

Ahh they're not supposed to be on all the time then? Mine are. I guess I just assumed the auto bit was that you didnt have to turn them on and off. So they should only be on when its low light yes?

Yes the idea is that they come on in low light conditions. I live down a lane with lots of tree cover so when I drive out of the sun into the lane the auto lights turn on automatically.

when i took delivery of my R56 MC last wednesday, the headlights were on all the time. i checked the manual and when setiing up via "set/info" i found that my mini had its lights always on. i just changed then to auto and everything is fine now and i find the autolights a very nice spec. just one thing to say: i find the auto headlights too sensitive. too bad, the auto lights doesnt change from parking lamps to low beam according to the intensity of the ambiant light....

I agree. They are a bit over sensitive but apparently nothing can be done to change it. ( Unless you have an early version of the Sat Nav)

Bought my Mini Park Lane June 2006. Lights even came on in bright sunlight. Took car back for same to be adjusted. No better. Took car back and light sensor was replaced. OK for about an hour then same old problem. They'd come on when not needed and stay on for ages after. Bright sun or not. Thought I would live with it but then March of this year (9 months after buying the car) the lights started to work properly of their own volition. They still do, coming on when needed and going off when not. Why it should have taken 9 months for them to settle in I don't know unless its a gestation period"

Richard.

thats an interesting post! thanks!
anybody knows if there is a "gestation" period for the automatic headlighs as for the automatic gearbox? because for now, my headlights turn on when not needed (from 5 o'clock sunshine, i dont know if you see what i mean).

For the guys who have lights that are on all the time, are you sure that the on board computer is not set to the daytme running lights function? In this mode, when the stalk is set to auto setting, the headlights will come on when you start the engine - check the handbook!

After 3 years of fault free motoring with my 2005 Mini One I have taken the plunge and got myself a new cooper fitted with the visibility pack.
I picked it up at 09.00 on Sat and have noticed that with the headlights set to automatic they have never actually been off. I have checked that the daytime running lights are set to off.
Do any of you people out there have any advice or do I need a trip to the dealer (already)
