Bluetooth Re-pairing takes a long time

I have the Bluetooth Prep in my 2007 Mini. I have paired the phone up, and can make calls, receive calls, and use my address book. But I’ve noticed that at times the mini and the phone will take 10 – 15 minutes to re-pair. In other words, the Nav system will keep saying “Searching for phone” and my phone will not indicate that the a Bluetooth Handsfree device is connected. I have a Motorola Q, and when it works, it’s great, but it just takes time for it to do so.

My friend has a BMW and a Motorola Q and he complains that it’s TOO aggressive. He could have his BMW parked in his garage and could walk into his kitchen and notice that his phone has paired with his car.

I seem to be the opposite. I walk up to the car, start it. Put the phone into the center console (no adapter, just the center armrest). I can start driving and it could take 10 minutes or so before the little antennae icon shows up on the nav system. Is there something that I might be doing wrong? Should I do something on my phone before I start the car? I have tried putting my phone into discoverable mode, to non-discoverable mode, etc, but nothing seems to consistently take.

Anyone else having issues like this? Thanks!

I have a K800i and it works very fast.

You only have to pair the phone to the car once to establish a secure protocol. Once this is done you phone should automatically switch over once you start your car (providing you leave your bluetooth on).

Yup, that's exactly what I anticpated the mini to do. I have had many other bluetooth headsets that did just that. Power them on, get in range and they work.

I sort of expected the mini to work somewhat the same. Hit the start button, and then I can use it.
