Offline | Fuel guage display too bright, disable? I've just taken delivery of a new MCS which I'm generally very pleased with although I am finding the speedo fuel level indicator too bright - especially as I can easily read the remaining fuel range in the rev counter display As this is the MINI2 forum where 'tweaksrus' I though someone might know how to darken/disable this part of the display |

| It's only a one... Honest | Can you not dim the dash lights like in previous MINI's with a button top left of the speedo? (hold to dim, push repeatedly to brighten.. or visa versa.. can't remember!) Not to sure about R56's but I'd assume so.. unless maybe you can and it dims all lights but that. Only other option would be to crack the gauge open and pop a bit of tinted plastic acetate in there. |

Offline | interesting Martin, I was wondering why the brightness on my fuel gauge constantly varied on it's own. i thought it was actually a fault, ( along with my noisy dash, another story ), but it may just be the sensor ? |

Offline | I think I know what's going on now and why the display has been distractingly bright. As mentioned above the brightness does seem to be controlled by an ambient light influenced sensor. If you drive along the A1 on a summer evening you pass through sunlight and not directly sunlit parts of road. The sensor/display adjustment hysteresis means that you can easily be in a dark part of road with a very bright fuel display. As its on the edge of peripheral vision and if the rest of your car interior is black then it is very distracting. When the lights are on, the brightness of the fuel display is influenced by adjusting the dash display brightness but always seems to remain brighter than the dash. So where does that leave me? Considering the tint suggestion, possibly by placing a small piece of window tint film on the speedo to cover the fuel display. |
