stereo upgrade options for 2007 S?

i have a 2007 mini s and got the stock stereo (yes i should have gotten the 10 speaker upgrade, but didn't want to wait 12 weeks to order one.)

so what are my options to upgrade the stereo? the dealer (sacremento) said i would have to go to a stereo shop but that concerns me with all the warnings posted all over the place

i love the car, but i think my 1982 chevette had a better stock stereo. any suggestions for after market stereo upgrade?

thank you.

Well... from what I've read you can't change the head unit, it has a optical fibre link into the speedo so basically means you're stuck with it.

Mikey NewMINIStuff.com does stereo upgrades, but not handy with him being in the UK and you being in the US. However he sells his wiring harness bit (£20) that would allow someone at your end to fit an amp and speakers. That way no cutting of wires

It's quite easy for a stereo shop to add an amp and speakers to your MINI since you have the base stereo. The hiFi is a little trickier but can be done.
someone on NAM posted all the wiring diagrams for the stereo system from radio to speakers.

The HiFi is actually a little easier, since Mini has already run the wires to the boot for you.

That being said, the adaptor from Mikey would be a start; but I wouldn't want to take the dash/console apart. A reputable car audio shop would probably be the better choice.

HERE is the link to the NAM 2nd Gen audio forum.

Hi,

I can definitely recommend my own setup (see pictures below). It gives a dynamic, clear and deep sound combined with more than enough power. This setup focusses more on quality of the sound then raw power, so don't expect abnormal BOOM, BOOM which you can hear from a mile away.

Why does anyone want that anyway?........
It has plenty of bass but i am thinking of placing a Polk subwoofer to top things off.
No matter how good the speakers are, a sub is always better for the low frequencies (that is what they are designed for).

I'll have to warn you though....this setup ain't cheap but it doesn't SOUND cheap either

My advice is to go to a caraudio shop (a specialist) and listen to several setups and let them advice you.

I hope my story is useful for you.

- Alpine PDX-4.150 amplifier

- Polk DB6750 speakers (front)

- Polk MMC690 speakers (rear)

- Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.1 soundprocessor
