What do you call the 'key'?

Does the key 'thing' have an official name, as it can't really be described as a key, can it?

What do you call yours?

Good point Ben.

I have two car keys on my key ring - my Mini and my wife's Fabia.

Therefore if Im driving the Mini, it's called the key.

However, if I'm driving the Fabia, it's called the fob.

It's a key. A key doesn't have to have a metal pointy bit to be a key. (Although it does have that, just hidden).

I call the key: "the key"... but it's hidden in "the saucer".

The Key... But I like Fob or Blip

incidently should I be worried about the fob disengaging and finding I only have the manual key attached to my key ring or is this very unlikely? I don't go mountain climbing or anything, just wondered if anyone had heard any stories, bit off-topic sorry

Believe me it will fail at some stage. There is simply not enough notch for a decently engineered catch to engage with.

I had an Alfa Romeo key which had an adjustable eye. It failed within three months, and while AR would not pay for a replacement, it was not long before a re-designed key was supplied with new models.
