Hi, does anyone know how much MINI would charge for fitting if the customer supplied their own Garmin 360T? I know it might not be cheap if MINI are involved but it looks like a superb fit and not sure I would dare attempt to hardwire it myself!

you wont be able to get the mounting bracket seperate... as there's no seperate part number for it - only one for the whole kit.

To answer some of the questions above. I've received some more information from our OEM guys:

In all EU markets its possible to buy the bracket separately, so you can fit your own nuvi.

Its not our plan to release the Mini icons and logo separately as these are one small way that we can add value to our OE products.

Of course we are always looking to develop the next Gen product but there's no way to use the 600 series.

Mini and BMW AG have exclusively selected Garmin as their PND supplier, as far as we are aware they have no plans to create other genuine brackets for other PND's

Official install time is 1hr

Unit has recently been repriced, so people should expect to see the price coming down.

Any more questions, just yell guys :] I've been kinda appointed the company blog watcher with regards to this product

Rec,
A few questions :

1) When on the bracket does the unit get charged ?
2) Does the unit have a headphone socket ? If so is it possible to output the sound into the car stereo system ?

Thanks

Perm,
1: the unit is powered by the hard wired cable included. it charges when the unit is both turned on and off.
2: the unit does have a headphone socket - which means you can connect either an FM transmitter or a standard stereo cable to the AUX input.

:]

Rec,
Thanks for the reply,

Do you know if it possible to have the wiring hidden and connected to the back of the head unit for audio ?

In addition could it be configured to mute / lower the music when and direction announcement was being made ?

Thanks

Perm

the audio connector is on the side of the unit, and it's not connected to the stereo via the muteable lines like, say, a mobile phone handsfree set would.

if you connected it to the AUX input, you'd be listening to nothing between the voice prompts unless you played all your MP3's off the GPS unit (in which case it will mute the music).

you cant listen to a CD and have the AUX input interrupt the audio. it is designed as a portable system, not a built in system.

Rec,
However if you could design the unit ( interface ) that allowed for the unit to utilise the audio connector via the muteable lines like, say, a mobile phone handsfree set then that would
allow for a real business benefit.

You would be able to have the best of both worlds......... portable / low cost yet intergrated..... i am sure it would not be that difficult to hook up such a connection......

the only thing the bracket does is tap into the ignition power of the car. hooking it into the audio feeds would require a considerable amount of effort specifically due to the stereo systems being different between each generation of MINI.

i am passing all comments onto the development teams that handle this unit, however.

That looks pretty nice.

Is the unit a 360T (with traffic information)? My dealer's saying 360, but that might just be a lack of detail. If it is a 360T, does the kit include an FM antenna (if required)?

Some good pics there Rec, the installed Garmin looks brilliant in that location. You mention that it is possible to buy the bracket seperately, do you have an idea how much the bracket will cost? Will only MINI dealers sell it or will official Garmin stockists also be able to supply it? Thanks for your help in anticipation.

By the way I have just taken delivery of my new Garmin 360T, very pleased with it! It's Garmin Sat Nav for me everytime, great product!

it's a 360 unit that is capable of doing the traffic stuff, but there is no traffic receiver included mate.

the bracket will only be available through MINI as it's an official MINI part - just made by us. I have no idea on the cost of the bracket, though I will ask here and see if I can find out.
